Gaithersburg Planning Commission Will Make Final Action on Watkins Mill Urban Core Application at 7:30pm Wednesday

TC Mid-Atlantic Development V. Inc. has submitted Amendment to Final Site Plan application ASDP-9338-2022, requesting to reallocate 100,950 square feet of office density and 62,494 square feet of retail density between previously approved Buildings B1, B2, B3, C2, C3 and C5 in the Watkins Mill Town Center Urban Core.

On August 1, 2005, the Mayor and City Council approved Schematic Development Plan Application SDP-05-002 for a mixed-use project which include 1,066 dwelling units, 259,939 square feet of retail, 936,650 square feet of office, and a 394 room hotel.

The Montgomery County Planning Boardwill hold a public hearing for the Rustic Roads Functional Master Plan Update on November 17 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to provide testimony in-person or virtually. Learn about testifying to the Planning Board. The public hearing was set on October 6 after a briefing to the Planning Board.

Clopper Rd in Germantown Closed Due to Sinkhole

WSSC UPDATE: WATER STATION OPEN – 11/15 – 7pm – 10pm at Clopper Mill Elementary School 18501 Cinnamon Dr., Germantown

Clopper Road (MD-117) is currently closed from Mateny Road to Waring Station Road due to a sinkhole, according to the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and expect significant delays. We will post an update when more information is available.

Council Passes Legislation to Provide a Property Tax Credit for First Responders

Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Council voted today to pass Bill 39-21, Taxation – Public Safety Officers – Public Safety Emergency Communications Specialists – Property Tax Credit, which would establish a property tax credit for certain Montgomery County first responders. Councilmember Tom Hucker and Council President Gabe Albornoz sponsored the legislation. Council Vice President Evan Glass and Councilmembers Nancy Navarro, Sidney Katz, Andrew Friedson, Will Jawando and Craig Rice are cosponsors.

This legislation establishes an annual property tax credit of up to $2,500 for full-time sworn police officers, career firefighters, emergency medical technicians and public safety emergency communications specialists employed by the County. The goal of the bill is to increase the number of County employees in public safety who reside in the County and help recruit and retain these employees.

Rockville-Based Silver Diner to Open First Baltimore County Location

The Avenue at White Marsh, a popular destination for many in Baltimore County, has announced that Silver Diner will be opening its first Baltimore County location at the shopping center. Silver Diner will be taking over the corner space adjacent to Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble, one of the original tenants at the shopping center, has been temporarily closed for renovations since August with plans to reopen in early 2023.

In addition to being Baltimore County’s first Silver Diner location, the 8,125 SF restaurant will also be the 23rd overall restaurant for the company that recently opened its first DC location and has over 20 additional restaurants across Maryland and Virginia (with one in Cherry Hill, NJ).

Montgomery County Council Unanimously Confirms the Appointment of Dr. Kisha Davis as County Health Officer

Earlier this afternoon, the Montgomery County Council unanimously confirmed the appointment of Dr. Kisha Davis as the new County Health Officer. County Executive Marc Elrich nominated Dr. David last month for the position. According to Council documents, the Health Officer position was extended to Dr. Davis for a salary of $200,000 plus benefits.

“Montgomery County has led the nation in our response to the COVID-19 pandemic thanks in large part to the leadership at our Department of Health and Human Services,” said County Executive Elrich when recommending Dr. Davis for the position. “With the nomination of Dr. Kisha Davis as our County’s next health officer, we have found a health expert and leader committed to innovation, equity, and access to healthcare. I want to thank Dr. Davis for accepting this position and I look forward to working with her, listening to her advice and following her guidance regarding the health issues and challenges facing Montgomery County.”

Hickory Farms Opens in Germantown

Fans of summer sausage and cheese ball spreads rejoice, Hickory Farms has opened a location at 13052 Middlebrook Road in Germantown, the former site of Mattress Firm. The holiday pop-up shop is expected to be open through the first week of January. Items for sale include sausages, cheese, crackers, mustard, and candy, as well as pre-made gift baskets. Store hours are Mon – Fri: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Sat: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM, and Sun: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Photos of the store’s interior below.

Per MCPD: “On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 15, 2022, she was found in the 11000 block of Oak Leaf Drive in Silver Spring. Hogabs Jerky Has Closed

Hogabs Jerky at 19332 Montgomery Village Ave (formerly TV-VCR Repair) has closed. The specialty beef jerky shop opened for business in October 2021. No word on what will be replacing Hogabs, but an announcement is expected in the next few weeks. Detectives From Special Investigations Unit are Asking For Public’s Assistance in Locating Missing 16-Year Old

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 16-year-old from Silver Spring. On the afternoon of Monday, November 14, 2022, Katherine Reyes was last seen leaving her residence on Veirs Mill Rd. Reyes is 5-feet, 8-inch tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen carrying a black Jordan backpack and wearing a white jacket, pajama pants with a black strip and black Crocs. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.
