Barstool-Rated Pizza Places in MoCo

At one point Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, ate pizza every day for two years while getting his “One Bite” pizza reviews started on Instagram and YouTube. Through the years, he has eaten pizza from various restaurants across the country– providing a 1-10 rating for each slice, with over 1,000 ratings overall. While many disagree with his opinion on pizza, the ratings are some of the most popular across the country (in terms of social media views). Most of his reviews come from pizza places in Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey, but some restaurants operate stores locally here in MoCo. Check them out below:

Buca Di Beppo (New York, NY, #1024, 1.2). An incredibly low score for the Italian family-style chain restaurant. It’s sole MoCo location can be found in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood.

Costco (Clifton, NJ, #1016, 1.9). While the occasional lines and waits for the pizza at Costco would sometimes indicate otherwise, Portnoy have it a very low rating and score. MoCo locations in Gaithersburg and Wheaton.

McDonald’s (Orlando, FL, #1001, 2.9). We’ve never had McDonald’s pizza, as it was likely a regional item. It doesn’t seem like we are missing much, with a low ranking and score for Mickey D’s. Dozens of locations across the county.

Pizza Hut (North Bergen, NJ, #981, 3.8). We’re sure this would have scored better at the buffet in 1991, but it looks like the Hut got outpizza’d, coming in as one of the lowest ranked pizzas with a 3.8. Multiple locations across the county.

Chuck E. Cheese’s (West Melbourne, FL, #872, 6.0). Pizza from our childhood gets reviewed, with a decent score all things considered, but a ranking closer to the bottom. Currently locations in Rockville and Takoma Park.

Whole Foods (New York, NY, #847, 6.1). Grocery store pizza gets the One Bite Review and can be found towards the bottom of the list. The score, however, isn’t too bad. Multiple locations across the county.

Panera Bread (New York, NY, #847, 6.1). You read that correctly, Portnoy reviewed pizza from Panera. It came in tied with pizza from Whole Foods. Multiple locations across the county.

Ledo Pizza (New York, NY, #705, 6.7). Ledo has made the move into hostile territory, entering NY. Portnoy gave it a solid 6.7, putting the “Maryland Style Pizza” towards the middle of the pack.

Colony Grill (Stamford, CT, #61, 8.4). Whole technically not open in MoCo yet, Colony Grill will be opening soon in the revamped Cabin John Village in Potomac.

Frank Pepe Pizza Napoletana (New Haven, CT, #51, 8.5 and Chestnut Hill, MA #2, 9.4). Frank Pepe opened a Montgomery County location last year in Montgomery Mall (Bethesda).
