Commanders Hire New Defensive Coach Following the Firing of Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio and Defensive Backs Coach Brent Vieselmeyer

The Washington Commanders have hired former Bills’ secondary coach Jim Salgado to help out their defensive staff in the week following the firing of defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer, according to a report by ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Salgado, who served as the cornerbacks coach for the Michigan State Spartans this season, previously spent six seasons as an assistant with the Buffalo Bills. His coaching experience includes three years as a defensive assistant before transitioning to working with nickelbacks and safeties in the secondary.

With the departure of defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera is expected to take on most of Del Rio’s responsibilities. Salgado’s background indicates that he may step in to fill the role left by Vieselmeyer while helping Del Rio with other defensive duties.
