City of Gaithersburg’s New Year’s Holiday Closures and Recycling Schedule

Below is the City of Gaithersburg’s New Year’s Holiday and Recycling Notice:

Sunday, December 31, 2023:


Monday, January 1, 2024

  • All City facilities are closed.
  • The Administrative Offices of the Gaithersburg Police Station are closed. Police patrol will remain on duty. For emergencies, please call 911. For non-emergencies, please dial 301-279-8000 for dispatch.
  • Recycling scheduled for collection will be collected Saturday, December 30. Bulk pick up is unavailable.

Recycling

The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day are Mondays, December 25, 2023 & January 1, 2024, will take place the preceeding Saturdays, December 23 & 30, 2023. Recycling includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard & commingled materials (which should be separated from brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves & other yard trimmings) picked up by the City’s contractor.

Loose leaf collection will not take place on December 25. The collection period concludes on December 30. After the collection period ends, leaves can be placed in biodegradable brown paper bags & left curbside with other recyclables on your weekly collection day.

On-demand bulk pick up for residents whose regular recycling days are December 25 & January 1 will be unavailable. Appointments can be made for the following week using the online form, by e-mailing [email protected], or by calling 301-258-6370.

Regular trash & garbage collection for City residents is handled by private contractors. Please contact your HOA or your private contractor regarding the holiday collection schedule for these materials.
