Town Hall Bar & Liquor Store Closes Permanently After 65 Years in College Park

Town Hall, a bar and liquor store that opened in College Park back in 1949, closed permanently on Friday, March 22.

Longtime Town Hall owner Ron Burdoo, whose family owned Town Hall from 1958 until 2016, described it as a “typical roadhouse/tavern” with pool tables and an attached liquor store. The clientele is mostly local adult professionals, some college professors, University of Maryland alumni, and limited college students.” Ron made the decision to sell the property upon his retirement to North Carolina back in 2016.

The current property owner, LV Collective, based out of Austin TX, originally gave 60-day vacate notices to tenants on August 1, 2023. These tenants included Chase Bank ATM, Mr. Fries Man, Main Event Barbershop, College Park Liquors, Taqueria Habanero, Laser Essentials, Jodeem African Cuisine, Jidong Tea, Hanami Japanese, The UPS Store, Vape Exchange, Gaming Video, Pupuseria La Familiar, Pandora’s Cube, UM Nail Spa, Box’d Kitchen, and Town Hall Liquors.

The 60 days passed without Town Hall closing and on December 20th, 2023, Town Hall posted the following on its Facebook page. “It’s a Christmas miracle! There is a temporary reprieve for our closing timeline. We are now looking at sometime in the spring for our last day of operation. We will be here for St Patrick’s day and possibly longer, more info to come.”

Last September, the City of College Park shared that the city’s Economic Development Manager met with many of the affected merchants. Merchants were encouraged to use the City’s Business Attraction and Retention program to relocate within College Park and or to use Virtual Food preparation facilities available within the City. Some merchants have been in negotiations to move to new spaces in College Park.

LV Collective has stated that project costs for the new building which will include retail pads are estimated at $150 million upon completion.
