Arrest Made After Alleged Hit & Run Monday Morning; Police Say Suspect Engaged in Physical Altercation With Officers

Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department has announced the arrest of Nelson Gerardo Pereira, 44, of Washington, DC, for 1st Degree Assault, Hit & Run, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest.

According to Takoma Park Police: “At approximately 3:00 am on March 25, 2024, Takoma Park Police were dispatched to the 7100 block of Garland Avenue in response to a hit-and-run report. Upon arrival, officers were met by the victim who reported that he had been intentionally hit by a subject, later identified as Pereira, at the Sunoco gas station on New Hampshire Avenue.

According to the victim, he had followed Pereira to Garland Avenue after the initial collision. Officers located Pereira in his vehicle and attempted to gain his attention. After several attempts, Pereira exited his vehicle. However, he resisted arrest by engaging in a physical altercation with the officers. Pereira spat on them, kicked at them, and even attempted to bite their hands.

Pereira was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.”
