Lionhearted Students ROAR in 4th Annual Longview TRYathlon!

On Friday, April 26th, the Longview School in Germantown hosted their fourth annual TRYathlon!  The Longview Lions, accompanied by students from Matsunaga Elementary School’s Classic Autism program, roared with pride, showing off their indomitable spirit as they participated in swimming, biking, and running events.

The high-energy, party-like atmosphere included special guests, family, and friends, as well as staff and students from Matsunaga Elementary School, all of whom were blown away by the energy, motivation, and perseverance of the lion-hearted Longview students.

The Longview School is a specialized school in MCPS that provides comprehensive educational services to students 5 to 21 years of age with severe to profound intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. Longview students often need specialized instruction and support for complex communication needs (non-speaking), limited motor functioning, visual and/or hearing impairments, complex medical and/or physical needs and/or traumatic (acquired) brain injuries.

“The mission at Longview is to support each and every student in increasing their independence and supporting a high quality of life. Our TRYathlon is an opportunity to celebrate all our students can do and we are so proud of them!” said principal Sarah Starr.

Vicki Ferguson, Longview parent, added, “Longview is a school that sees our kids, cheers them on, thinks outside of the box and adapts what’s needed. Everything is possible for our kids at Longview!”
