In a May 9th re-release of a previous press release from Takoma Park Police, the following is stated regarding police responding to several calls for shots fired:

“On April 29, 2024, at approximately 9:48 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6400 block of Kansas Lane for a report from a resident who found a spent shell casing on the street directly in front of his residence on Kansas Lane near the curb on the opposite side of the street.  Officers canvassed the curb line of the 6400 block of Kansas Lane between Westmoreland Avenue and Allegheny Avenue which resulted in locating two more spent shell casings.

A resident captured the suspect vehicle on a home security camera, which revealed an unknown make/model black sedan driving onto Kansas Lane at a high rate of speed at approximately 10:35 pm on April 28.  When the suspect vehicle was no longer in frame of the camera, the sound of 12 gunshots can be heard.  Investigation is ongoing.

On April 28 at approximately 10:39 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6600 block of Allegheny Avenue for the report of possible shots fired; police received 12 calls for the sound of shots fired in the surrounding area.  Police canvassed the areas on foot for suspects, potential victims, and casings with negative results.  Two residents believed the shots may have been coming from the District of Columbia side of Eastern Avenue.

If you have any information, please contact police at 301-270-1100 and refer to case #240019865.”
