On August 24, 2024, at approximately 2:50 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue following a report of an armed robbery that had occurred earlier in the day involving a fake $1,000 winning ticket.
Per police, “According to the victim, the incident took place between 1:00 pm and 1:56 pm while he was walking in the area. He was approached by two male suspects. The first suspect presented the victim with what appeared to be a fake $1,000 ticket and instructed him to withdraw money from the bank, promising that he could keep the ticket in exchange.
The second suspect then accompanied the victim to a bank in Hyattsville, Maryland, where the victim withdrew $1,000. Afterward, the second suspect escorted the victim back to New Hampshire Avenue to meet with the first suspect. At this point, the second suspect made a gesture implying that he had a weapon and threatened the victim, instructing him to go home or face harm.
Suspect Descriptions:
- Suspect One: Black male, approximately 60 years old, last seen wearing glasses, a blue shirt, and gray pants.
- Suspect Two: Black male, last seen wearing a blue shirt, an unknown colored hat, and a tan cross-body bag.
