Momiji Sushi Izakaya & Japanese Eatery Moves Closer Towards Opening

Momiji Sushi Izakaya & Japanese Eatery, is set to open in Silver Spring, taking over the space that was the longtime home of Cubano’s. The restaurant has a hearing for its liquor license with Montgomery County’s ABS on Thursday, November 6th.

The restaurant will be located at 1201 Fidler Lane, a building that housed the popular Cuban eatery for more than two decades before it permanently closed its first location in early 2024. The building at 1201 Fidler Lane was previously listed for sale in October for $2.75 million, following Cubano’s closure.

Source of the Spring first reported in May that a Japanese restaurant was coming to the space, and in June, it was confirmed that demolition and construction were set to begin soon for the future home of Momiji. An opening date is not yet available, but the restaurant is moving closer with its ABS hearing date set.

It is important to note that this new establishment has no affiliation with the Momiji restaurant that was operating in Washington, D.C. since 2008 and recently closed permanently on September 30th.
