In August, we reported that Chipotle planned to bring a new standalone location to Gaithersburg. The project is officially moving ahead, as the City of Gaithersburg Planning Commission has approved the 2,385SF restaurant that will also have a drive-thru. The build will require demolishing an old bank building on the property, a structure that has not operated as a bank for at least ten years.
The new Chipotle joins the ongoing redevelopment of the Walnut Hill Shopping Center, where significant transformation has taken place over the last two years. As previously noted, the center welcomed ALDI in July 2024 and unveiled a large mural by Baltimore street artist Nether, signaling an effort to refresh and reenergize the corridor.
Several additional tenants are also on the way. Concentra Urgent Care has since opened, and Lightbridge Academy early education center, Inspire Nail Bar, and Sheetz are all planned for the area. The Sheetz at 16529 S. Frederick Avenue will be one of the company’s smallest store designs to date, created specifically to fit the footprint of the shopping center.
The redevelopment aligns with Montgomery County’s larger transit vision as well. A Bus Rapid Transit Flash/Rapid Bus station is planned for the intersection of Route 355 and Westland Drive, bringing enhanced connectivity to a corridor that continues to attract new investment.
