A 15-year-old student has been charged with assault following one of two separate incidents involving weapons at Magruder High School in Derwood on Thursday morning, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
Officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery County Police responded to the school in the 5900 block of Muncaster Mill Rd at approximately 8:47am on September 3.
Police said school security personnel discovered a student carrying a knife while investigating a separate report that another student had a gun. The knife was confiscated, and any disciplinary action related to that incident will be handled administratively by Montgomery County Public Schools.
The student believed to have a gun was identified as a 15-year-old male. According to police, he assaulted an MCPS administrator and members of MCPS security during the investigation. Authorities recovered a BB gun belonging to the student.
The 15-year-old was charged with first- and second-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon on school property and disruption of a school day. The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services authorized his detention.
The school was initially placed in lockdown before transitioning to a hold to support police operations. Both restrictions were later lifted.
