Pike & Rose is a 24-acre, transit-oriented neighborhood including more than 50 tenants of retail space. The current selection of restaurants (including Summer House Santa Monica, Fogo de Chao, &pizza, sweetgreen and Julii), retailers (including REI, Sephora, L.L.Bean and Sur La Table, Uniqlo), a Porsche dealership, and entertainment offerings (iPic Theaters, Pinstripes and AMP by Strathmore) have created what many view as one of the county’s top retail environments. Below is a list of what’s coming soon to the development:
Bouboulina: Scheduled to open on Friday, March 21 on the street level of 921 Meeting Street in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose neighborhood. The full-service American grill influenced by Mediterranean cuisine is named for Bouboulina, a heroine of the Greek War of Independence who commanded her own fleet and private army and became the first woman in world naval history to become an admiral. The restaurant will feature a wood-fired grill, premium steak cuts, fresh seafood and house baked breads with Mediterranean influences that celebrate the founders’ heritage and roots.
Ted Xenohristos, Dimitri Moshovitis and Ike Grigoropoulos are behind Bouboulina, the team’s third restaurant at Pike & Rose, that joins a collection of popular and award-winning dining choices available in the neighborhood. Melina, which opened in 2021, is name after Dimitri’s daughter and is located on the street level of 909 Rose near the group’s first restaurant, French Mediterranean concept, Julii, which opened in 2018. The partners are also the co-founders of CAVA, the Mediterranean fast-casual concept, which is publicly held.
bartaco: Coming soon to 11886 Grand Park Ave, in the space that was previously home to Nada (closed in September 2024), “bartaco offers an upscale, yet relaxed dining experience inspired by the beach culture of Brazil, Uruguay and Southern California. The restaurant delivers a fresh take on upscale street food with a coastal vibe——tacos, rice bowls, poke, soups, salads, and desserts—as well as an extensive beverage menu with specialty cocktails made with fresh, juiced-to-order citrus. bartaco will be located on the corner of Grand Park and Rose Avenues, across the street from West Elm, providing the perfect spot for locals to escape and enjoy globally inspired tacos and bold flavors in a welcoming atmosphere.”
sweathouz: Opening very soon (mid-March), sweathouz is a contrast therapy studio specializing in deliberate exposure to heat and cold. It will open a 2,888-square-foot studio at North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose in mid-March. It will be located at 11564 Old Georgetown Road next to Forbright Bank.
Falafel Inc.: Falafel Inc. is coming to 11802 Rockville Pike, Suite G– taking over the space previously occupied by Kung Fu Tea and Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt. Falafel Inc opened its first Maryland location at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda in November. The DC-based quick-service chain offers falafel, hummus, bowls, and sides like Zaatar fries and Tabouli salad. It’s expected to open in April.
Mui: The 8,506 square foot restaurant is taking over the space that was previously home to The Block and will be located at 967 Rose Avenue, next to West Elm. According to Federal Realty, “The expansive menu will feature non-traditional Japanese dishes as well as traditional kaiseki, sushi, omakase from Japan. Also complimented by an agave, scotch and sake menu curated by a highly trained mixologist along with an impeccable list of champagne, wine and cocktails.” The restaurant is expected to open in May.
“We are excited for the opening of Bouboulina and welcome the popular bartaco, as well as Mui, sweathouz and Falafel Inc.,” said, Stuart Biel, Senior Vice President, Federal. “Our fully-enhanced neighborhood is a popular destination for gourmands and patrons from Montgomery County and the greater community. We are thrilled to add these new experiences.”
