Burger King Set to Replace McDonald’s in Fast Food Shuffle

At the beginning of this year, we let you know that McDonald’s closed permanently in the Westfield Wheaton mall food court (11160 Veirs Mill Rd.) and that it will be replaced by Burger King. BK has just received a permit valued at $239K to begin work on the transition, which should be open in the next few months.

Burger King will join Pollo Campero and Popeye’s as upcoming additions to the food court. Current food court vendors include Bourbon Street Cafe, Charleys Cheesesteaks, Grill Kabob, Suki Hana, Taco Bell, and Thai Kitchen. Additionally, Five Guys will also be opening a location at Wheaton Mall to ensure competition for the burger chain.

Westfield recently announced that Montgomery County’s Department of Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) will open its “upgraded retail concept,” Oak Barrel & Vine, on the upper level in the Costco wing. Additionally, Wiseguy Pizza, which opened in September 2023 as the chain’s only Maryland location, closed earlier this year in the Wheaton Mall food court.
