CVS will close its location at 8005 Gramercy Boulevard, off Crabbs Branch Way, in Rockville/Derwood on February 17. The upcoming closure was confirmed by a representative via phone call on Tuesday afternoon.
The store is located within the Westside at Shady Grove community and has only been open since mid 2023, making the upcoming closure a relatively short run for the national pharmacy chain. No reason for the closure has been publicly announced.
The planned CVS shutdown is the latest change within the Westside at Shady Grove retail area, which has seen several notable closures over the past year. The indoor playground Kids Ground permanently closed in the summer of 2025. Nearby, the Starbucks at 8010 Gramercy Boulevard also closed permanently on September 27, leaving multiple vacant storefronts along Gramercy Boulevard.
Despite the recent closures, Westside at Shady Grove is still expected to see new activity in the coming years. Fontina Grille, a longtime Rockville favorite currently located at 801 Pleasant Drive in King Farm, is planning to relocate to the development in fall 2026. The Italian restaurant is known for its classic dishes and warm hospitality, and its move is expected to bring a well known local name into the area.
As of now, there has been no announcement regarding what may replace the future vacant CVS, or the already closed Kids Ground and Starbucks spaces.
