Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) provided an update on Wednesday afternoon after responding to an apartment fire on College Parkway in Rockville at approximately 6:30am Wednesday morning.
According to the MCFRS update, firefighters located the fire behind a refrigerator inside a third-floor apartment. An adult resident and a 2-year-old child escaped safely without injury. Before leaving the building, the resident alerted other occupants and helped ensure the building was evacuated.
Gas service was shut off to two apartment buildings, while power was secured to the affected building. A total of 24 apartment units have been displaced while utilities are restored and the building is evaluated.
Rockville City Emergency Management, the American Red Cross and property management are assisting affected residents. No injuries were reported.
