Popular Burrito Spot Opening Second Montgomery County Location

Popular Takoma Park burrito spot San Pancho is expanding with a second Montgomery County location, this time in Bethesda. The restaurant’s coffee has also garnered a strong reputation in the area with customers lining up out the door for a Matcha Horchata Latte or Horchata Cold Brew.

Bethesda Today reports that San Pancho will open a new location in Bethesda, following the debut of its original restaurant in Takoma Park in July 2024. According to the report, the Bethesda restaurant will be larger than the Takoma Park location and will offer a full café menu.

The expansion comes as San Pancho continues to receive recognition for its original location. Last month, Washingtonian named the Cal-Mex burrito restaurant one of “The Best Cheap Eats Around the DC Area.” The list highlighted 60 restaurants where diners can get what Washingtonian described as a satisfying meal for less than $25 per person, excluding drinks, tax and tip. More than 200 restaurants throughout the region were considered.

Washingtonian specifically highlighted San Pancho’s Mission-style super burritos, made with Sonoran flour tortillas, as well as the restaurant’s salsas, cocktails and creative coffee drinks.

San Pancho opened at 7056 Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park in July 2024 and was created by husband-and-wife team Carolina McCandless and David Perez, who also own nearby Cielo Rojo. The couple met in 2012 while working at a Mexican restaurant in San Francisco’s Mission District, where they developed an appreciation for the neighborhood’s distinctive style of burritos.

Inspired by those experiences, they opened San Pancho with the tagline “Born in La Mission.” The restaurant uses traditional Sonoran-style flour tortillas imported from Mexico, locally sourced hormone-free meats and scratch-made ingredients in an effort to bring a taste of San Francisco’s Mission District to Montgomery County.
