The Washington Commanders have claimed running back Robert Henry Jr. off waivers, beating out the division-leading New York Giants, who also submitted a claim for the former Washington running back.
According to NFL reporter Ben Standig, the Giants were the only other team to submit a waiver claim for Henry, who was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week.
Henry spent training camp with Washington, where he initially impressed the coaching staff before experiencing some struggles. The Commanders remained interested in his potential, but Seattle signed him off Washington’s practice squad earlier this season.
His return comes as the Commanders deal with several significant injuries. Washington placed running back Jeremy McNichols and defensive linemen Javon Kinlaw and Daron Payne on injured reserve. Head coach Dan Quinn had indicated Monday that McNichols’ injury was serious, leaving Washington in need of additional depth at running back.
