Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports has reported that Commanders Head Coach Ron Rivera is expected to remain with the team throughout the season, but that the soon-to-be vacant General Manager (GM) and Head Coach positions will be among “the most attractive in the NFL.”
Washington Commanders majority owner and managing partner Josh Harris released a statement following the moves made to relieve defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer from their duties. The statement also mentions plans for the team’s future, which can be seen here in full.
The team has a capable young quarterback in Sam Howell, who is signed to a very affordable contract for the next two years, a handful of high draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft following the trades of Montez Sweat and Chase Young (a 1st, two 2nds, and two 3rd round picks), and plenty of cap room this upcoming season.
With the Commanders almost guaranteed to move on from Rivera after the season, Jones wrote, “That means there will be a search for a head coach, and very possibly a general manager, in Washington this offseason. And both jobs are thought to be among the most attractive in the NFL.”
