Rockville City Police put out a message on social media warning the public of a new scam that’s occurring locally via phone that involves scammers posing as fire inspectors and indicating they will be performing inspections and collecting payment for violations on-site.

Per Rockville Police: “The Rockville City Fire Marshal’s Office has become aware of persons contacting businesses posing as a fire inspector, indicating they are coming to perform an inspection and payment for violations will be collected on-site. This is not the practice of the Rockville City Fire Marshal’s Office. Always report suspicious calls from anyone claiming to be a fire marshal or fire inspector to the Rockville City Fire Marshal’s Office at 240-314-8250 or the Rockville City Police Department at 240-314-8900 immediately.

The Rockville City Fire Marshal will never contact you regarding a “fire inspection” and then require on-site payment for any alleged violations. Always report suspicious calls from anyone claiming to be a Fire Marshal to the Rockville City Fire Marshal’s Office at (240)314-8250″
