Little Beet Table in Chevy Chase has closed permanently. The restaurant was located in The Collection at Chevy Chase (5471 Wisconsin Ave.) and opened in November of 2020.

Little Beet Table, which still has a location on Park Avenue in New York, served brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks with a vegetable-forward, seasonal approach. They have a 100% gluten-free menu packed with nourishing, wholesome dishes.


Takoma Park

bibi abelle Studios is now open in Takoma Park, per Main Street Takoma. Per the instagram post, tattoo artist and Takoma Park native, Britteny Etienne, specializes in fine line tattooing and single needlework with the majority of her work consisting of realism and precise lettering. First launched as a home-based business during the pandemic, the Bibi Abelle Studios has expanded to its new location in the heart of Takoma Park. With a viewership of 82 million households, it became the most-watched series on Netflix at the time of its premiere, and remains the second most-watched series by total watch time on the platform. The series reached number one in 76 countries on Netflix.


Education

Tyler and Dermott Foley will receive $5,000 for the Grand Prize documentary, “What Happened to Gibson Grove?”

C-SPAN has announced the winners of this year’s StudentCam documentary competition, in which more than 3,000 students from across the country participated. Again this year, 150 cash prizes totaling $100,000 will be awarded to students and teachers.


WMATA

Capital construction advances at record levels

Metro’s Board of Directors today voted to approve a $4.5B package of service and construction projects that delivers affordability, service and safety as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) budget. Highlights include cheaper late-night and weekend fares, maintaining service improvements especially for bus customers, and funding for the Silver Line Phase 2 service and the Potomac Yard Station. The budget also funds Metro’s capital program which has improved safety and reliability across the system.

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement:

“For nearly eight years, we have been fighting to end the gerrymandering monopoly that has for too long been a shameful legacy of our state. This ruling is a monumental victory for every Marylander who cares about protecting our democracy, bringing fairness to our elections, and putting the people back in charge. It puts in plain view the partisan, secretive, and rigged process that led to the legislature’s illegal and unconstitutional maps.


Bethesda

Hip Flask, the rooftop bar that’s inside of The Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ, will be opening up a few weeks later than previously anticipated. Representatives tell us the bar now plans to open on Tuesday, May 3rd

Hip Flask will serve small plates and craft cocktails. The new hotel also features a 360 degree lobby bar. Seventh State, the hotel’s restaurant, which includes a built-in Italian wood oven and indoor/outdoor seating opened earlier this month.


Arts

 Andrew Italia is an attorney in Rockville, 2001 Quince Orchard High School graduate, and MoCo resident. When he was in college at the University of Maryland, he was the movie critic for The Maryland Diamondback.

During his time as the movie critic, he began making Oscar predictions for all 24 categories. His all-time record is 21 out of 24, but he usually falls in the 18-20 range.


DMV

Pride Prom, an event that provides attendees with the opportunity to enjoy Prom with pride, “dress however you want, and dance – without fear – with whomever you want”, will take place in Rockville on Friday, May 13th.

The dance is open to high school students (public, private and homeschool) and community college students (under age 21) from Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia.


Bethesda

Montgomery County Police warns of a collision that has left Bradley Blvd closed at Bradmoor Drive, Rayburn Road and Huntington Pkway. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.

At 6:05AM, the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management has stated that the road is closed in both directions between Rayburn Rd and Huntington Pkwy and also cautions motorists to expect significant delays and a eek alternate routes.
