Rockville

Mr. Smoothie, located at 33 Maryland Ave G in Rockville Town Square, has closed permanently according to Google. The phone number has also been disconnected.

Mr. Smoothie, a smoothie and frozen yogurt bar chain, has most of its locations in New York with additional locations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina.


MoCoSnow

More snow is possible this week as the GFS (North American model) and Euro (European model) are going head to head in their latest runs regarding potential snow on Saturday.

The National Weather Service has our area under the “Slight Winter Storm Threat” category for this upcoming Friday into Saturday (featured photo).


MoCoSnow

The National Weather Service has released snow totals from yesterday’s winter storm. These totals come from various times, so they may be different than what you experienced in the same area due to the changeover to sleet, freezing rain, and eventually rain.

Clarksburg came in with the highest total measuring at just under 4 inches.


Education

Former Montgomery County Board of Education members and MCPS principals Michael Durso and Jeanette Dixon wrote a letter in support of MCPS hiring current interim Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight as Superintendent for the next four years, effective immediately.

Bethesda

Back in August, we let you know that Yirasai Sushi would be moving from its Westbard location in Bethesda to Park Potomac (12525 Park Potomac Ave Building G), following a conversation with restaurant management.

From August: “Earlier today we spoke with a manager at Yirasai Sushi, located at 5110 Ridgefield Road in the Westwood Shipping Center in Bethesda, who told us that the tentative plan is to close to the current location later this year as they prepare to move in to the old Elevation Burger spot in Park Potomac that became available last month.”


MCFRS

West Montgomery Avenue is closed between Nelson Street and Hurley Avenue due to a traffic collision involving a tractor trailer that occurred just before 7am this morning, according to MCFRS PIO Jason Blake.

A Haz Mat team has been on the scene to pump off the saddle tanks prior to the removal of the tractor trailer. There were no injuries.

Bethesda

Brigadier General Charles McGee, one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen, passed away at his Bethesda home this morning at the age of 102.

Brigadier General Charles Edward McGee (born December 7, 1919) was a retired American fighter pilot and one of the last living members of the Tuskegee Airmen, an all African-American military pilot group who fought during World War II (as part of the 332d Fighter Group).
