The City received a 2021 Honorable Mention Award from the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission during a virtual ceremony on December 16, 2021 for Discovery Park. The Sustainable Growth Awards celebrate significant achievement by individuals, businesses, organizations, and local governments to realize the “12 Planning Visions” adopted by the Maryland General Assembly. The awards promote exemplary work that represents or inspires collaboration, innovation, conservation, community impact, and quality of life.
“Our Discovery Park project exemplifies the power of partnerships between businesses, residents and the City for sustainable growth,” said Mayor Jud Ashman. “We appreciate the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission’s recognition of this local initiative that demonstrates our City’s commitment to responsible growth and development.”
Prince George’s County Public Schools have announced that all students will be moving to virtual learning starting this Monday, December 20th and going until January 14th (resuming on Tuesday, January 18th after the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday) for secondary schools and until Monday, January 31st for K-6.

Federal Realty announced today that three new tenants, Carl M. Freeman Companies (CMFC), Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU) and ACA Group, have committed to 909 Rose, located in the award-winning, transit-oriented Pike & Rose neighborhood in North Bethesda.
These new tenants will join ESAB, Emagine IT, OneDigital, United Solutions, Industrious and Federal Realty. With the addition of these three tenants, the building is now 89 percent leased.

WHEATON, Md.— Montgomery Parks and Brookside Gardens are hosting the annual Greenscapes Symposium online on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 9:15 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. EST.
The University of Maryland has announced that it will be taking due to a sharp increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases on campus (110 total since Monday).
These actions include the cancellation of all winter commencement activities/ceremonies, the cancellation of any indoor activities where masking cannot be strictly enforced, all campus dining halls transitioning to “grab and go”, RecWell activities closed until January 3, the requirement for students who live on campus to go home after their final on-campus exam, and the requirement for all students/faculty to wear KN95 masks for all in-person finals.
MCPS has posted an important message on the homepage of its website notifying the community that the school system and local police have been made aware of viral online threats that have been going on across the country.
In the message, which can be seen below, MCPS states that there is no indication that the threats have any credibility.
Seibel’s closed permanently on November 28th after operating in Burtonsville for over 82 years.
We spoke with John Angel, an owner of neighboring restaurant Chapala, who told us that they have purchased the building that was home to Seibel’s (15540 Old Columbia Pike).
With Covid-19 cases on the rise in professional sports and across local schools, MCPS has continued to meet regularly with Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services to discuss Covid-19 health and safety protocols.
Dr. Earl Stoddard, Montgomery County’s Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, has told us that a team of himself, Dr. James Bridgers (Montgomery County Deputy Health Officer), Dr. Raymond Crowel (Director of Montgomery County Health and Human Services), Mr. James D’Andrea (MCPS Chief of Staff) and many others meet weekly, including earlier today.
