This young lady was born in Tacoma, Washington but moved to Maryland when she was 11. She spent her teenage years in Silver Spring and graduated from Springbrook High School before attending Montgomery College for a year before moving on to the University of Washington.

She started her acting career in theater, before landing a role in 1977 CBS series, The Andros Targets. She also co-starred with Daryl Hannah in the film The Clan of the Cave Bear (1985) and won a CableAce Award for Best Actress for the HBO series Tanner ’88 (1988). Her notable film roles include The Long Riders(1980), The Right Stuff (1983), The Best of Times(1986), Kindergarten Cop (1990), Junior (1994), Bean (1997), and Proof of Life (2001). She played a main role in Jericho (2006) and has appeared as the mother of main character Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation.


Beyond MoCo

Del Taco, a fast food chain that specializes in American style Mexican cuisine, is making its way closer to our area after signing a deal to make Virginia it’s 17th state.

The deal calls for ten restaurants in Southern Virginia, including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News, and other surrounding areas.

The Montgomery County Planning Board approved the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment Scope of Work during its September 30 meeting.

At yesterday’s press conference, Governor Larry Hogan stated that “Monoclonal antibody therapy is available at more than 80 facilities statewide, and health officials have directed clinicians to step up their utilization of this treatment.”

Bethesda

It has been nearly two years since it was announced that the Michael Schlow restaurant group would bring The Riggsby to Bethesda. Now it’s confirmed that The Riggsby won’t be coming, after all.

After multiple reader tips, we called The Salt Line DC today and spoke with a representative who was able to confirm that the restaurant would be moving in to 4900 Hampden Lane– the space that was formerly home to Kapnos (and would have been home to The Riggsby). We were also told a Ballston, VA location would be opening in 2-3 weeks.

A Montgomery County, Maryland Powerball player made history in the Monday, Sept. 27 drawing, becoming the first person in the nation to win a $10 million Double Play top prize.

Montgomery County’s Rockville Exxon at White Flint located at 11433 Rockville Pike in Rockville sold the winning Powerball Double Play ticket, which matched all of the numbers in the Sept. 27 Double Play drawing: 2, 27, 51, 62 and 66; the Powerball was 1. For its role in the historic sale, the retailer will earn a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery.
