I stopped by this past weekend and was able to experience a new limited time exhibit “ The History of Black Schools in Montgomery County”. The exhibit highlights the education for black students in Montgomery County, integration of the schools, pioneer educators and the importance of education to the achievement, sustainability and cross-cultural communication of the people from the 17th century to today.

The exhibit runs through October 7th and the museum is open Thursdays from 10:30am-1pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm-4pm. Group tours are available at any time on any day and can be booked by e-mailing [email protected]

Brookeville

The Sunshine General Store (located in Brookeville, MD, on the corner of Georgia Ave and Rt. 650) is probably not a place most people would consider stopping for, if they weren’t aware of the burgers that are made inside.

The sign on the door will remind you that cash is the only form of currency accepted. “Probably Olney or Laytonsville” is the answer you’ll hear if you ask where the closest ATM is. Update: They now accept credit cards.

Kensington

The market features 28 vendors, including: baked goods & sweets, cheese, fruits & vegetables, prepared foods, and more.

Grandma Vera’s Bakery – fresh baked foods to include Brazilian cheese bread (gluten free and super delicious), fresh squeezed juices, empanadas and every amazing pastry imaginable.

Downtown Silver Spring

inride, a new car subscription service in Silver Spring, allows subscribers to drive a fleet of cars for one monthly payment.

Subscribers are able to schedule a flip at the press of a button and keep the car for as long, or as little, as they’d like.

MCPS

This decision comes on the heels of MoCo health officials declaring a “public health crisis” with the increase of sexually transmitted infections in adolescents and young adults.

The most recent data showed a 17.5% increase in chlamydia cases and a 29% increase in gonorrhea cases in the county.
