Glenmont

Last October we let you know Dunkin’ will be taking over the space that was previously home to $2.49 Cleaners, at 12196 Georgia Ave. in Wheaton-Glenmont, on the same block as Trippy Tacos and Seafood in the Buff and near Popeyes. Now we know that a $500K permit has been granted for construction to begin on the space, per Maryland Newsletters.

MoCo Government

Metro and Montgomery County officials launched an initiative Wednesday, to seek an experienced developer to build a major transit-oriented life sciences center at the North Bethesda Metrorail Station, that will include housing, office, retail, and public spaces.

As the community mourns the loss of Fawzan Hassan, the 6-year-old boy who was found in the pond at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg on Sunday, the First Hijrah Foundation (described as a non-profit, non-political, humanitarian Islamic organization established by Ethiopian Muslims in North America) has shared information regarding his funeral.

As the region experiences unusually dry conditions that are expected to persist despite recent rainfall, a Drought Watch was put into effect today by the Drought Coordination Committee of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG). It’s the first brought watch for the region since 2010, The Frederick Pulse reports.

Maryland

In its first year, the Maryland Grain Producers Association and Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Maryland’s Best program, have named Frederick’s McClintock Distilling the winner of the 2024 Maryland’s Best Whiskey competition. It is for whiskeys produced in the state, made with at least 50 percent or more local grain.
