Tony’s Pizza, located at 3 Atlantic Ave in Ocean City, MD, has a rich history rooted in the journey of its founder, Antonio “Tony” Bruno Russo. It recently reopened after it closed while the building was redeveloped into a new establishment called “Flamingo Coast,” and Tony’s Pizza is now a stall on the outside of this new building.

Brookeville

Many consider the Sunshine Burger from the Sunshine General Store in Brookeville, MD (often referred to as Sunshine, between Olney and Damascus) the best burger in Maryland. The burger boasts a ½ pound of ground beef topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise. However, part of the burger’s charm lies in the unique atmosphere of the General Store itself. A MoCoShow commenter once wrote “Best burger in Maryland, just don’t look at the walls.”

Last month we let you know that Harris Teeter, located at 11845 Old Georgetown Rd. in North Bethesda, is set to close permanently. The store has recently been offering significant discounts (50%) to its customers, and now much of the selection of items is gone (photos below).

The bright lights of international basketball are currently illuminating a familiar face for residents of Silver Spring: Zania Socka-Nguemen. The rising sophomore forward, a proud product of Montgomery County, is representing the United States at the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup in Brno, Czechia, which began on July 12th.

The Shops at Congressional Village, a prominent shopping center in Rockville, Maryland, is once again making headlines as it becomes available for purchase. The center, which sold for $44 million at auction in 2022 after the previous owner defaulted on a 2019 mortgage, has since undergone a transformation, attracting several new businesses and restaurants.

Arctaris Impact Investors, LLC, a national impact investment firm with a 15-year track record in underserved communities, announced late last month an equity investment in a $27 million opportunity zone hotel-to-residential conversion opportunity in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. Source of the Spring reports that it will be the former Hotel Silver Spring, located at 8727 Colesville Rd., that closed in May.

Montgomery County’s own Sydney Mednik has been recognized with the prestigious Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award by ESPN. Sydney hails from Potomac, Maryland, and is set to begin her junior year at Winston Churchill High School this fall. A competitive soccer player, she has been a vital part of the Churchill Varsity Soccer Team since her freshman year and actively participates in club soccer.
