The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has provided new details about the arrest of two individuals after a drug transaction, during which one suspect attempted to escape by ramming a police vehicle and was found with over two pounds of marijuana and a stolen handgun.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Washington Dulles International Airport seized 257 pounds of dried opium poppy pods between February 12 and February 21, 2025, from 81 shipments originating in Madrid, Spain. The controlled substances, often used to make narcotic “poppy tea,” were mislabeled as decorative items and destined for multiple addresses across the U.S., with CBP officers seizing them for destruction as part of ongoing efforts to prevent illicit drug imports.
