The International Association of Firefighters Local 1664 has announced its early endorsement of Councilmember Andrew Friedson for Montgomery County Executive, marking the first labor endorsement in the 2026 race. The organization cited Friedson’s commitment to public safety, support for first responders, and record of championing emergency services and working families. Earlier this month, Businessman, philanthropist, and former County Executive candidate David Blair also endorsed Andrew Friedson for Montgomery County Executive.

On Monday, Councilmember Evan Glass, currently serving his second term as an At-Large member of the Montgomery County Council, announced endorsements from Tom Perez and David Trone in his campaign for County Executive. Governor Wes Moore has appointed retired Army Colonel and Carroll County Commissioner Ed Rothstein as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families, effective August 1, with Ross Cohen continuing as deputy secretary.

MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Council will meet Tuesday, July 15 to present proclamations, introduce a renewable energy bill, and vote on multiple items. These include hiring preferences for displaced federal workers, new rules for unlicensed entertainment events, and changes to water and sewer service. The Council will also hold public hearings, interview a nominee for Public Information Director, and consider a resolution supporting 14 early voting centers.
