Colesville

Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. According to MCPD, “At approximately 9:26 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of New Hampshire Ave. and Bonifant Rd. for the report of a pedestrian struck.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of a grey Toyota Prius, that was traveling on New Hampshire Rd., south of Bonifant St., struck an adult male pedestrian who was walking in the roadway. The 61-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, where he was pronounced deceased.


Colesville

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Southbound MD-650 New Hampshire Ave, just South of Bonifant/Good Hope Roads in Colesville on Tuesday, September 5 around 9:20pm. According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, the patient was was transported to an area trauma center with critical injuries.

Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 9:53pm: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A traffic collision has southbound New Hampshire Ave. closed between Bonifant Rd. and the ICC. Expect significant delays. Montgomery Village Middle School (19330 Watkins Mill Rd, Montgomery Village) is partnering with nearby Stedwick Elementary School and Watkins Mill Elementary School to host a Back-to-School Block Party on Thursday, September 14th from 6-8pm. The event will feature a DJ, food, games, free haircuts, free immunizations, and more.

Aspen Hill

Per MCPD: 23-year-old Manuel Alejandro Ayala, of Layhill, has been arrested and charged with a shooting and murder that he allegedly committed on Monday, September 4, 2023.  At approximately 7:54 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 14200 block of Punch St. for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. When officers entered a nearby home, they located 65-year-old Rosa Maria Benitez-Ozuna, of Layhill, deceased. Officers also located the suspect’s mother suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.


Gaithersburg

Kabob N Karahi at 18232 Flower Hill Way (Previously Aaron’s) in Gaithersburg is hoping to open by the end of the month. Kabob N Karahi is a Pakistani restaurant (that serves some Indian cuisine), and its menu consists of a variety of kabobs, curries, stews, and tandoori naan.

The Cloverly Village Center location at 15521 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring., opened in 2008 and has become a staple in Cloverly. Clarksburg

WUSA9 reports that Montgomery County Police responded to a collision involving a child on Tuesday, September 5, near Rocky Hill Middle School in Clarksburg.  According to police, “MCPD responded to the area of Frederick Road and Little Seneca Parkway at approximately 7:49 a.m., for the report of a pedestrian struck.  A juvenile victim has been transported with minor injury to an area hospital.  The driver remained on scene.”

MoCo Government

Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Anti-Hate Task Force’s Muslim cohort will hold a virtual listening session on Monday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. The listening session is an opportunity for the public to engage with the Muslim cohort of the Anti-Hate Task Force and provide input that will guide the cohort’s recommendations to the Council. Each of the six cohorts is tasked with presenting policy recommendations that promote safety and combat hate in Montgomery County.   

The Anti-Hate Task Force was formally adopted through a resolution with unanimous support by the Council in June. The task force, made up of community and faith leaders, held their first meeting in July. 


MCPD

The Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Elkin Herrera, a missing 14-year-old. Herrera was last seen on Wednesday August 30, 2023 at approximately 5:30 p.m., in the 600 block of Monroe St. in Rockville. He 5’7′ 120 Ibs, with black hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing red t-shirt with the Nike logo, black sweatpants and grey sneakers.

Gaithersburg

The Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Betsy Angelee Santiago Olan, a missing 16-year-old. Santiago Olan was last seen on Friday, September 1, 2023 at approximately 5 p.m., in the 400 block of Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg. She is 5-feet tall, 150 lbs., with black hair, green eyes, and a tattoo on her hand. She was last seen wearing all black clothing.

PGPD Executive Command is aware of a video circulating on social media with one of our officers. As soon as we became aware earlier today, we opened an investigation to determine the circumstances. Additional information will be released once investigated and confirmed.
