Update: 15-Year-Old Hospitalized With Life—Threatening Injuries After Being Struck by Driver in Germantown

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and Montgomery County Police responded to a collision involving a pedestrian Tuesday night in Germantown. According to MCPD, “at approximately 8:53 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area Wisteria Dr. and Great Seneca Hwy. for the report of traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 15-year-old male was crossing Wisteria Dr. after Great Seneca Hwy., when for reasons still under investigation he was struck by an Acura. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Juvenile Pedestrian Critically Injured by Driver Near Seneca Valley High School Tuesday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a pedestrian Tuesday night in Germantown. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a juvenile was transported to the hospital with Priority 1 traumatic injury after being struck by a vehicle near Seneca Valley High School. Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 9:22pm: “Wisteria Dr. is closed in both directions between Great Seneca Hwy. and Circle Gate Dr. as the result of a traffic collision. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”

BMW Stolen at Gunpoint in North Bethesda

Montgomery County Police responded to an armed carjacking around 5pm on Tuesday, May 9 in North Bethesda. According to MCPD, “Officers responded to the 11300 block of Woodglen Dr. for the report of an armed carjacking. The suspect approached the victim and demanded her keys and displayed a handgun. The victim complied and the suspect drove away in a blue 2015 BMW 535i with Maryland Tag 9DE1456. The lookout for the suspect is a Black male, wearing a light colored beanie, black face mask, a grey hoodie and cargo style pants.”

Montgomery County to Host 26th Juneteenth Celebration with Music, Artistic Performances, Educational Exhibits on Saturday, June 17, in Germantown

The celebration weekend will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 16, at BlackRock when County Executive Marc Elrich leads ceremonies to honor the 2023 winners of the County’s African American Living Legends Awards. The awards honor individuals who are 75 or older and have dedicated their lives to service, advocacy and selfless acts of kindness to their community. BlackRock Center for the Arts is located at 12901 Town Commons Dr. in Germantown.

Annual Montgomery County Ride On Bus Food Drive to Run from May 21-27

Per MCDOT: The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and Manna Food Center are once again asking Montgomery County residents to help fight hunger in Montgomery County. The annual Ride On Food Drive will take place from May 21-27. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off on all Ride On, extRa, Flex and Flash buses. Riders who donate food will have their bus fare waived.

Food collected during the drive will be distributed by Manna Food Center through its network of locations across the County. Last year Manna Food Center donated 3.8 million pounds of food to more than 37,000 participants.

Montgomery County Police Recognizes National Fentanyl Awareness Day; MCPD Reports 52% Increase in Overdose Incidents From Last Year

DEA is proud to join “Song for Charlie” and many of our valued law enforcement, public health, and non-profit partners in recognizing National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Tomorrow represents an important opportunity to remember the victims of fentanyl poisoning and educate people in our communities about the deadly threat that fentanyl poses to the national security, health, and safety of the American people.

One year ago, on the first National Fentanyl Awareness Day, DEA opened the Faces of Fentanyl exhibit at DEA Headquarters—a wall in DEA’s West Building that displays the photos of those who lost their lives to fentanyl poisoning. The memorial started with 100 photos; over the past year, Americans from across the country have sent DEA more than 5,000 photos. It reflects the reality that fentanyl is killing Americans from all walks of life, in every state and community in this country. The youngest person on the wall is Forever 17-months old. The oldest is Forever 70 years old. The Faces of Fentanyl exhibit has become a safe and compassionate space for grieving families impacted by fentanyl to visit when in the Washington, D.C., area.

Police Investigating Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision in Germantown

Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred on Clopper Road between Waring Station Road and Game Preserve Road early Tuesday morning. According to MCPD, “At approximately 12:37 a.m., on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, a Honda was traveling north on Clopper Rd., when for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The adult male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gaithersburg Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Restaurant Parking Lot Shooting Caught on Camera

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “the Honorable Eric Johnson sentenced defendant, Jefferson Delgado, 29, of Gaithersburg, to life in prison suspend all but 30 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release. The sentence was handed down yesterday in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD. On March 30^th, 2023, a jury found Delgado guilty of first-degree attempted murder for shooting a man outside of Antojitos restaurant located on East Diamond Avenue Gaithersburg.

This shooting Aril 18, 2021, was prompted by an argument between two groups of people at the restaurant. It happened in the parking lot outside of Antojitos at 1:22 a.m. and was caught on surveillance footage. After retrieving a shotgun from a friend’s vehicle, Delgado opened fire at least twice hitting the victim with two bullets. He then ran to a parking garage where he was captured by another surveillance camera running back and forth. He is seen attempting to hide the weapon. The victim in this case survived. Prosecution was handled by Assistant State’s Attorney Teresa Casafranca.

Taco Bar in Olney Has Closed

Taco Bar at 18100 Georgia Ave in Olney has permanently closed. The restaurant opened in the former Jerry’s Subs & Pizza spot back in 2018 and served a variety of tacos, tortas, and soups. Taco Bar has additional locations at 3 Russell Ave in Gaithersburg and 1450 W. Patrick St in Frederick. Popular gas station restaurant Taco Bar El Guero (in Rio) is not related to these restaurants.

Takorean to Hold Ribbon Cutting Celebration That Includes a Free Food From 11AM-2PM on Tuesday, May 9

TaKorean, a Korean taco grill located at 261 Kentlands Blvd (former Nalley Fresh location) in Gaithersburg, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Gaithersburg Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, May 9 at 10:30am and is offering free food for guests from 11am to 2pm. The restaurant offers Korean style tacos and bowls with options including chicken/Dak Halbi, steak/Bulgogi, pork/Bo Ssam, and tofu/Hoisin. Takorean held its soft opening on Thursday, May 4.

This is TaKoreans first location outside of D.C. According to RestaurantDive, TaKorean is currently looking to open one restaurant at a time with future franchisees, and wants to ensure success at its initial franchise locations to create a strong base for a burgeoning franchise program. The company is open to multi-unit deals, but isn’t seeking them out. TaKorean is currently casting a wide net for potential markets, and once it sees brand recognition and franchisee interest in a particular market, it expects to build up that area, Lenard said. TaKorean is flexible on potential restaurant sizes, depending on a market’s real estate conditions.
