The first Oak Barrel & Vine store, located in the Cabin John Village shopping center, opened in 2021 and has become a customer favorite. The future second Oak Barrel & Vine store, located in the Montrose Crossing shopping center, is expected to open in January 2023. ABS intends to upgrade its remaining retail stores to the Oak Barrel & Vine brand over the next several years.

ABS is the alcohol wholesaler of beer, wine, and spirits for Montgomery County and operates 26 retail stores throughout the County. In addition, ABS manages alcohol licensing, enforcement and education for more than 1,000 businesses. Generating more than $35 million in net income annually, its profits are used to pay down County debt with a large portion deposited in the general fund to pay for resident services that would otherwise be funded by County tax dollars. Health

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Wes Moore today announced Electronic Benefits Transfer reimbursements for fraud victims. Since beginning outreach to eligible individuals last week, the Maryland Department of Human Services has approved nearly 1,300 claims totaling $761,584 in reimbursed benefits.

“My administration is using a direct and swift approach to reimburse people whose food and cash benefits were stolen,” said Governor Moore. “We are demonstrating how our state will lead and find innovative ways to solve our common problems and restore faith in our family-serving institutions.”


North Bethesda

After nine years, Quincy’s South at 11401 Woodglen Dr in Rockville will be closing this Friday, March 31.  The current location is scheduled to be redeveloped into an apartment complex with a retail pad and the restaurant is actively looking for a new location. Drew Gardner, who was recently in the running for Maryland bartender of the year, will be the new General Manager and managing partner when the restaurant reopens. After 3/31, Gardner will be at Quincy’s Potomac (1093 Seven Locks Rd) until a new location is found for Quincy’s South.

“We had a great run here,” said owner Marty Magill. “We never could have imagined how the neighborhood would support us over the years. We are so very grateful for everyone who visited and can’t wait to find our new home nearby soon.”


Gaithersburg

Miriam may be traveling to outside of Maryland with her 41-year-old grandmother, Karla Vanessa Martinez, in an unknown vehicle. Gaithersburg

Lum Thai is now open in the Muddy Branch Square shopping center in Gaithersburg (video below).The Thai restaurant is located in the space previously occupied by Roggenart and Canela Bakery at 806 Muddy Branch Road. Other restaurants in Muddy Branch Square include First Watch, Paisano’s, and Royal Tandoor.

According to its website, the Lum Thai is open daily from 11am until 9pm. The menu features a variety appetizers (all priced below $10), soups, salads, entrees/curries/noodles (all priced at $13.95), chef specialities  (going as high as $20), and desserts.


Silver Spring

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Saturday, March 25, 2023 on Columbia Pike near Hillwood Drive in Silver Spring.   At approximately 1:50 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a pedestrian struck.

The investigation has revealed that an adult male pedestrian was struck by a red 2015 Lexus ES300h and a black 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that were traveling northbound on Columbia Pike, just south of Hillwood Dr. The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene after the collision. The driver of the Jeep left the scene and reported the collision hours later at a police station.


Gaithersburg

She was last seen wearing a white jacket and black/white tie dye pants.  Miriam may be traveling to Tennessee with her 40-year-old grandmother, Carla Vanessa Martinez, in a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck bearing Tennessee license plates. Carla is 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.  Family and police are concerned for her welfare. Silver Spring

Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Saturday, March 25, 2023, at approximately 01:50 a.m., on Columbia Pike near Hillwood Drive in Silver Spring. According to MCPD, “The preliminary investigation has revealed that an adult male pedestrian was struck by two vehicles that were traveling northbound on Columbia Pike, just south of Hillwood Dr. One of the drivers remained at the scene after the collision. The other driver left the scene and reported the collision hours later at a police station. 

The Montgomery County Department of Police, Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this collision. A news release will be distributed once more information is available, including the name of the deceased following proper notification of next of kin.      Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.” 


Silver Spring

Montgomery County Police are asking the public’s assistances in identifying a man found today in Silver Spring.  Per MCPD: The Montgomery County Department of Police is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying an adult male who was located at the Blair House Apartments in the 8200 block of 16th St. in Silver Spring. He has no identification and is not able to give his name.

Fairland

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision on E Randolph Rd, between Stratford Garden Dr & Tourmaline Ct in Fairland on Saturday afternoon. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the collision involved involved two vehicles. Three individual had to extricated after being trapped in their vehicles and a total of six patients (4 adults/2 teens) were transported for injuries, including one adult with Priority 1 trauma.

Some lanes are currently blocked. A sand truck has been requested due to fuel/oil spillage on the road. We will post an update when additional information is available.


Boyds

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 15900blk of Barnesville Rd in Boyds on Friday night for the report an outside fire.  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, firefighters encountered three buildings (two sheds and a 2-car garage) on fire a half-mile off the road. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Piringer tweeted, “Power supplied by extension cords/power strips. Due to damage & numerous competent ignitions sources, incl smoking materials.” Damage is estimated to be ~15K. We will post an update if additional information is available.
