Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene of a collision Monday morning around 10am that involved an overturned tractor trailer. The incident occurred on the ICC (MD200) prior to US-29. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, HazMat is currently on the scene to clean the fuel spill (Maryland Department of Energy is pumping off 150 gallons of diesel.)

 


Gaithersburg

Twine is approximately 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 300 pounds. He has short black hair, brown eyes and a beard. He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt, blue shorts with red on the sides and Tommy Hilfiger red, white and blue slides.  Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Queinton Isaiah Twine is asked to call the 6th District Investigative Section at (240) 773- 5770 or the police non-emergency number at (301) 279- 8000 (24-hour line). Callers may remain anonymous.


MCPS

Montgomery Public Schools released a survey this week asking the public to provide input on the 2023-2024 school year calendar. According to MCPS, “This survey seeks to gauge the Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) community’s interests as the calendar scenarios are developed for school year (SY) 2023–2024. Prior to presenting the calendar scenarios for discussion at the Board of Education Meeting on October 25, 2022, MCPS is providing an opportunity for the public to provide input. Please share your SY 2023–2024 calendar interests by Thursday, October 13, 2022.”


Wheaton

Coming soon signage is up for Royal Jewelers (RoyalDMV) in Westfield Wheaton Mall. Royal describes itself as a one-stop-shop for exuberant hip-hop jewelry. Royal will join Ardene, Classic Diamond by Pandora, Crown, Elite, Gold Palace, Kay, Paradise, Ruby,  and Sun’s on the list of jewelers located at Wheaton mall. No opening date has been announced.

“The Mayor and Council oppose the county’s plans to house a future Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Criminal Justice Complex and restoration center, and plans for a Montgomery County Public Schools/Ride On bus depot, at the site, which abuts eight city neighborhoods.”

Criminal Justice Complex (1451 Seven Locks) – This proposed County project provides for the design and construction of a new Criminal Justice Complex (CJC) on the site of the former District One Police Station located at the north end of Seven Locks Road. The new facility would include a Central Processing/Detention component to support processing new arrestees and detaining remanded individuals and other related uses. The facility would be constructed in proximity to the proposed Restoration Center to maximize diversion and deflection opportunities.


Gaithersburg

Coming soon signage is up at Miss Toya’s Southern Kitchen at 229 Boardwalk Pl. in Rio. The restaurant will be located in the 2,741SF space previously occupied by BGR, which closed back in June. Miss Toya’s Southern Kitchen in Rio will be a fast-casual restaurant, while the recently opened Miss Toya’s Creole Kitchen at 923 Ellsworth Dr in Downtown Silver Spring is full-service (wait staff, etc.).

The restaurant is part of Jeffeary Miskiri’s Miskiri Hospitality Group, which describes itself as a unique collective of Black, family and woman-owned products and restaurants in the DC area. Miss Toya’s will serve southern-influenced dishes such as red beans and rice, macaroni and cheese and a southern fried chicken sandwich. It will be joining the recently announced Sportrock Climbing Centers and Charley Prime as well as the recently opened Donutchew, as locally-based businesses opening in Gaithersburg’s Rio. No opening date has been provided.


Silver Spring

20-year-old Adelia Bonilla Lainez was last seen on Friday, September 23, 2022, at approximately 10 p.m., in the 1900 block of Seminary Rd. in Silver Spring.

Lainez is approximately 5-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 108 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black jacket, red t-shirt and red leggings.  Police and family are concerned for her welfare.


Silver Spring

According to detectives, an adult female stated that as she was entering her apartment at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022, she was attacked from behind by an unknown race male. There was a physical struggle between the victim and suspect, during which time, the suspect sexually assaulted the victim. The victim screamed and the suspect ran from the apartment in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweatshirt, and tan or gray cropped length pants. The suspect did not say anything during the assault.


Maryland

“We welcome Judge Bonifant’s decision allowing the State Board of Elections to institute early canvassing for the general election, as I did in 2020 during the pandemic. It worked well in that election, but partisan legislators dropped the ball on adopting our successful approach, making this step necessary. We thank the court for acting swiftly, and encourage Marylanders to take part in the electoral process, make sure their registration is up to date, and consider volunteering to serve as an election judge.”


Takoma Park

The Takoma Park Street Festival will take place Sunday, October 2, from 10am-5pm on Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park.
