And the first bargain you find is when you come in – there is no admission or parking fee.


Derwood

The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (7315 Muncaster Mill Road, Derwood) is waiving adoption fees for all animals from Aug. 1 – Aug. 31 as part of their annual participation in the  Clear the Shelters event. Full details below from the MCASAC:

Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) is once again teaming up with NBC, Telemundo, and animal shelters across the country to find loving homes for pets in need! All adoption fees will be waived for all animals from August 1st through August 31st, 2022 during the annual Clear The Shelters adoption event!

A $10,000 winning Bingo X10 scratch off was sold last week at Young Gourmet Beer and Wine (3422 Olney-Laytonsville Road) in Olney.  Lottery players across the state of Maryland won more than $29.6 million during week ending July 31. Additional details below courtesy of mdlottery.com:

A historic Mega Millions jackpot was won in Illinois on July 29, and meanwhile, amid excitement about the $1.337 billion prize, 49 Maryland Lottery players across the state won prizes of $10,000 or more last week on a variety of tickets.


Gaithersburg

Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken is coming to the Montgomery Village Shopping Center, according to KLNB realty.  The restaurant will be located in the brand new space next to the upcoming Starbucks. Earlier this year Hangry Joe’s opened a location at 2533 Ennals Ave in Wheaton and has additional locations opening at 10050 Darnestown Road in the Travilah Square shopping center and at 718-B Rockville Pike.

Hangry Joe’s joins a growing list of restaurants that are all expected to open in the redeveloped shopping center by the end of this year that includes Antojitos Salvadoreños Isabel, Boo Boo’s Pho, Dickey’s BBQ, and Kobe Japan. The Joint chiropractic care center and Safe Splash Swim School have also signed leases and will coming to the center.

Gaithersburg

Five Below is now open at 516 N Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg, the former location of Chuck E. Cheese.  This is the second Five Below store in Gaithersburg, the other located at 202 Kentlands Blvd. We were told by representatives from the Kentlands location that the new Gaithersburg Square location will not be replacing the Kentlands store.  Five Below has additional MoCo locations in Germantown, Rockville, and Silver Spring.

Back on May 31, teen accessory chain Claire’s relocated its Lakeforest Mall location to Gaithersburg Square, taking over the former Grog’s Beer and Wine location between AT&T and Ashley Furniture Homestore.


Aspen Hill

On Monday, July 25, at approximately 10:08 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Norbeck Rd. and Baltimore Rd. for the report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles.

The preliminary investigation has determined that a grey 2016 Nissan Sentra was attempting to turn left from westbound Norbeck Rd. onto Baltimore Rd. when she was struck by a grey 2015 Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling eastbound.
