North Bethesda

The Pike District will be hosting two months of free salsa dancing beginning this Friday, May 6 from 6-9pm. The pop up event is located at Grand Park Avenue and Banneker Street in North Bethesda. Pike District will also host nine weeks of live music beginning June 2nd. Food and beverage/alcohol vendors will be on hand each week.

For both events each week, food and beverage vendors will be on-hand to bring a variety of food options and attendees 21 and older can indulge in a selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. Hang out and enjoy the live music on Thursdays, challenge friends to a salsa dance-off on Fridays, or take advantage of both!


Gaithersburg

Ela Mesa Taste of Greece held their grand opening this past Monday, May 2nd. The new Greek restaurant is located at 109 Paramount Park Drive in the Spectrum Town Center in Gaithersburg, which is currently home to restaurants like Barking Made Cafe, California Tortilla, Hot Pot Hero, and Firebirds.  The restaurant offers traditional Greek fare and also has a full bar that seats 10 people. Menu items include Pastitsio, Thalassina (seafood pasta), Kanelonia (veggie cannelloni), Kebabs, Lamb Chops, and Seafood Risotto.


Germantown

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on April 22, Montgomery County Police – 5th District officers responded to the 19500 block of Gunners Branch Road for the report of a shooting that just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim, later identified as 20-year-old Taon Lamont Cline of Frederick, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately engaged in lifesaving efforts until Montgomery County Fire Rescue arrived on scene. Cline was pronounced deceased on the scene.


Ashton

“It helps save lives. Mine, as well as others – like my family,” she said. Milagro told Lottery officials that she is looking for a house and the $50,000 prize will go toward her dream of home ownership. “I’m also appreciative of the program and what it has done to encourage others to get the vaccine,” she said. Milagro is one of 11 VaxCash 2.0 winners so far, and one of 10 winners of $50,000. The promotion’s first drawing on Feb. 15 awarded a $500,000 prize to a Dundalk woman. On May 3, a single winner will be selected for a grand prize of $1 million.

The VaxCash 2.0 promotion, which was announced by Gov. Larry Hogan on Feb. 8, is awarding $2 million in cash prizes in weekly drawings from Feb. 15 through today, May 3. VaxCash 2.0 aims to incentivize Marylanders to get COVID-19 booster shots. All Maryland residents 18 and older who had received an initial shot(s) and a booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine at eligible facilities in Maryland at any time were eligible to win. No registration or entry was needed.


MoCo Police

Upon arriving in the area where the crime occurred, officers observed an individual, later identified as Zamir Wade Lynn, matching the description of the suspect in the 3100 block of Whispering Pines Dr. Officers approached Lynn and located two firearms in his possession. Lynn is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.

Officers spoke with the male victim who stated that he was sleeping in his apartment when he was woken up by Lynn, who had just broken into the apartment. Lynn pointed two handguns at the victim and demanded money. Lynn exited the residence and was then apprehended by officers in the 3100 block of Whispering Pines Dr. Probable cause was developed to identify Lynn as the suspect. Lynn was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he has been charged with home invasion robbery, armed robbery and firearm related charges.


MoCo Police

On Sunday, February 20, 2022, at approximately 7:08 a.m., 4th District Officers responded to the 7-Eleven store in the 3500 block of University Blvd. West for the report of an armed robbery that just occurred.

The investigation by detectives determined that three suspects arrived at the location in a black Honda Ridgeline, which they had just allegedly stolen from Live Oak Dr. in Montgomery County. The suspects entered the store, displayed handguns and demanded an employee to remove money from the cash register. The employee complied with the suspects’ demands. A round was fired into the store, but no one was struck. One of the suspects stole a key fob from a customer in the store. The suspects then exited the store, and one of the suspects fled the scene in the customer’s vehicle, a gray Lexus RX. The other two suspects fled in the Honda.


Maryland

Per the State of Maryland:

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced a new partnership between the Office of Immigrant Affairs and 211 Maryland to expand multilingual access to services and support, including reporting hate crimes and finding resources for victims.  “This new partnership with 211 Maryland is an important collaboration to overcome language barriers in serving everyone who calls Maryland home and who works to make great contributions to our state,” said Governor Hogan. “It will further expand our outreach and resources to make it easier to report hate crimes and connect victims with services. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal to help provide additional support for those who are affected by these heinous crimes.”


Bethesda

Planet Bethesda, a plant-based food festival, will take place on June 5 from 12-6pm at Elm Street Park in Bethesda.  According to the events website, there will be more than a dozen area restaurants and vendors, live DJ, Bier Garten, and a plant-based pie eating contest.  Participating restaurants include Dog Haus, Berries & Bowls, True Food Kitchen, and Tikka Masala. Entry to is the event is free and vendor food and beverage will be available for purchase.
