MCPD: “There has not been a spate of attacks on women at Westfield Montgomery”

by MCS Staff

Following various reports of assault at Westfield Montgomery (Montgomery Mall) by local bloggers and users of the neighborhood social networking app NextDoor, Montgomery County Police Spokeswoman Shiera Goff tells us via email that “unfortunately, a lot of misinformation has been spread over the last few days.”

A recent post on NextDoor claimed that there have “been 10 assaults at Montgomery Mall by teens against women in the past three months.”  In the email to us regarding the recent reports, Goff also stated “There has not been a spate of attacks on women at Westfield Montgomery.”

“Since May of this year, Montgomery County Police has responded to calls related to shoplifting, assaults involving individuals known to one another, and domestic-related incidents. The most recent police calls have been for shoplifting and a fight between juveniles.” Goff writes. “The claims by certain individuals cannot be corroborated by MCPD.” in reference to other reports of assault at the mall.

Westfield Montgomery recently dedicated a community space for Montgomery County Police officers to use as a resource room and space to interact with the center’s visitors and members of the community.
