MCPS reminder: “Report card distribution is underway for the first quarter. In addition to reviewing academic progress, MCPS is encouraging parents/caregivers to please make note of the number of absences your student had during the first quarter.

A student is considered chronically absent if they are absent 10 percent or more (5 days during the first quarter) of the days they are enrolled. Please make every effort to send your child(ren) to school every day. If you have any barriers to sending your child(ren) to school, reach out to a trusted staff member at your school. They are there to help.

Timed tickets still available for Thanksgiving weekend.

Montgomery Parks is turning Brookside Gardens into a winter wonderland next week, with the opening of the Garden of Lights. The seasonal light display, featuring more than one million twinkling lights opens Friday, November 17, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. 


Highways / Interstates

Per the Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM): “MDEM wants to make sure all Maryland residents are as safe as possible as they travel during this holiday season. MDEM’s Annual Maryland Travel Safety Week encourages Marylanders to practice safe travel habits while using all modes of transportation throughout the year. MDEM also reminds travelers that, regardless of their mode of transportation, they should remember to “Know Before You Go” and “If You See Something, Say Something.”

Beyond MoCo

U.S. Customs and Border Protection released the following press release on Monday, November 13: “U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two men at Washington Dulles International Airport on November 3 who were both wanted on felony rape charges by the Montgomery County, Maryland, Police Department.

DMV

In summer 2021, Metro kicked off a yearlong project to replace all faregate payment cabinets across the Metrorail system with modernized units that include enhanced safety features, larger displays, and faster processing. Metro also took action to decrease fare evasion. After testing modifications to the existing faregates, they made the decision to retrofit all faregate doors to reduce fare evasion.

Bethesda

A total of $483.1 million was waged in Maryland during the month of October through online/mobile and in-person sportsbooks, which generated $5,812,245 in contributions to the state .
