Last June we let you know that Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden was coming to 7747 Tuckerman Ln in Cabin John Village, taking over the space that was previously home to Lahinch. Lahinch closed permanently last May. Since then, Common Plate Hospitality has decided to bring a new concept to the space– The Grove. According to a report by Eater DC, the restaurant believes its chef, Jose Lopez-Picazo, “has the potential to win a Michelin star here,”.
According to the article, The Grove will feature Mediterranean cuisine (Spain, Italy, and Greece) and hopes to open in July. “We realized there’s nothing there to cater to a higher-end, fine-dining experience,” says (Commonplate Founder) Chad Sparrow). “People don’t have to go to D.C. — we can offer that at the Grove.” The Grove had its hearingwith Montgomery County’s Alcoholic Beverage Services on Thursday, May 4th at 11am, where it was granted its license. Construction is ongoing at the restaurant.
A Beltsville man has claimed a $50,000 prize from a scratch-off purchased at 7-Eleven in Burtonsville. Full story below, courtesy of Maryland Lottery:
“What a payday! A Beltsville man found a blend of Lottery luck and player error turned his $100 allocation of Lottery games into a $50,000 Hot 777 payout. The 40-year-old found his lucky Hot 777scratch-off waiting at 7-Eleven #23691 located at 15585 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. He spent $50 on his usual draw games and decided to spend the other $50 he had allocated on scratch-offs. The Prince George’s County resident was immediately drawn to the new $20 Hot 777 game and decided to try it. He intended to buy just one but accidentally selected two scratch-offs. The accidentally purchased instant ticket was the $50,000 winner.
The City of Gaithersburg is governed by an elected Mayor/City Council – City Manager style of government, with elections held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in odd numbered years. The Mayor is elected to a four-year term and presides over the City Council. The City Council consists of five members elected at-large, each serving staggered four-year terms. The next City Election for three City Council Members will be Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
Gaithersburg residents will cast their ballots for three City Council Members in the November 7, 2023 Election. The terms of office for Council Members Neil Harris, Ryan Spiegel, and Robert Wu expire in November. The Council Members elected in 2023 will serve a four-year term.

Free parking and shuttle service will be provided starting at 5:30 p.m., from Westfield Wheaton, located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road. Speakers arrived in Montgomery County’s first #RideWithPride Ride On bus, which is wrapped with the Intersex Progress Flag and will be serving residents across the County throughout the month of June in honor of Pride. Governor Wes Moore today announced that the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration launched Maryland Mobile ID in Google Wallet. Maryland is the first state in the nation to offer digital licenses and IDs in Google Wallet, which will enable users to verify their identity easily and securely for airport security screening. “Maryland is leading the way in creating a more competitive and innovative digital environment while prioritizing accessibility and customer service,” said Gov. Moore. “Maryland Mobile ID advances our administration’s work to deliver safe and secure services that benefit all Marylanders.”
In May 2022, Maryland became only the second state to offer Mobile ID in Apple Wallet. With the addition of Google Wallet, Maryland is now the first state to offer Mobile ID on two major mobile wallet platforms. Maryland Mobile ID in Google Wallet and Maryland Mobile ID in Apple Wallet are the only forms of digital IDs issued through the Motor Vehicle Administration. “Innovation and technology are keys to building a transportation system that’s more equitable, accessible and safe for all Marylanders,” said Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld. “Maryland Mobile ID is a tool that puts more convenience in the hands of our customers.”

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Brianna Nicole Powers, a missing 16-year-old from Germantown.
Powers was last seen on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, approximately 12 p.m., in the 19400 block of Crystal Rock Dr. Powers is approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall. She has brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing black and clear eyeglasses, a black hoodie, blue jeans, and black and white canvas Vans sneakers. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.
Per Montgomery County: WSSC Water will hold an open house from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg that will range from offering water-saving tips to helping customers who have fallen behind on their water bills. Bohrer Park is located at 506 South Frederick Road in Gaithersburg. The open house will include activities for kids.
During June, WSSC Water will temporarily suspend water turnoffs to encourage participation in its “Get Current” program. The open house will have WSSC Water representatives that will work with residents through the utility’s Get Current program, which is running through June 30. The program could provide bill credits and 100 percent waivers of late payment charges and turn-on fees. Eligibility for the special programs is based on median household income.
