Gaithersburg

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal single-motorcycle collision that occurred on Sunday, May 21, 2023, on Airpark Rd. At approximately 3:04 p.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Airpark Rd. between Antares Dr. and Muncaster Mill Rd. for the report of a traffic collision involving a motorcycle.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the adult male victim was operating a blue and white 2010 Harley Davidson FLSTN Softail Deluxe, when for reasons still under investigation, he entered the median and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The decedent has been identified as 45-year-old Jason Ramon Caballero, of Bethesda.  This is an active and ongoing investigation.


Education

Nearly 12,000 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students are expected to receive their diplomas during commencement ceremonies scheduled between Wednesday, May 31, and Thursday, June 15. Graduation ceremonies will take place on individual high school campuses, at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and on the campuses of Mount St. Mary’s University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

On May 31, the first seniors to cross the stage will be Poolesville High School, who will graduate at Mount St. Mary’s, and Thomas S. Wootton High School, who will graduate at DAR.


Glenmont

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Sunday, May 21, 2023, on Veirs Mill Rd. At approximately 5:04 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Veirs Mill Rd. and Newport Mill Rd., for the report of a pedestrian struck.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that an adult male was struck by the driver of a dark blue 2007 Toyota Rav4, as it was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Rd. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 46-year-old Hernan Zuasnabar Cunyas, of Silver Spring.


Germantown

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police- Missing Persons/Cold Case Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Bryan Warah, a missing 22-year-old. Warah was last seen on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, leaving the 12100 block of Red Admiral Way in Germantown. He is approximately 6-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs 215 pounds. He has brown eyes and is currently wearing his hair in twists. Warah may be driving a white 2022 Honda CRV with Maryland license plate, 8FF6421. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Bryan Warah is asked to call the police non-emergency number at (301) 279-8000 (24-hour line). Callers may remain anonymous.


Poolesville

The Town of Poolesville will be replacing several water main valves throughout the distribution system. The work is scheduled to begin May 22 and last at least two weeks. The water system will be shut down intermittingly during the replacement process.

Not all residents will be impacted. Once the water service is restored, residents should bleed any air in the lines by running a bathtub for a few minutes. Per the Town of Poolesville, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”


Bethesda

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Patrol Investigations Unit have arrested and charged 31-year-old Kerrick Omar Miller of an unknown address, with a theft that occurred on Saturday, March 4, 2023, in Bethesda.

At approximately 10:51 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the location for the report of a theft that occurred earlier. The investigation revealed that the victim, a restaurant employee, had their backpack hanging on a coat rack, near the back of the restaurant. The suspect took the victim’s backpack, went into the men’s bathroom and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect left the backpack under the sink and exited the restaurant.


Gaithersburg

Per the City of Gaithersburg: An official proclamation designating June as Pride Month in the City of Gaithersburg will be presented at the Mayor and City Council meeting on Monday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the meeting, watch it live on YouTube or watch it via Zoom by registering here.

Accepting the proclamation is Emily McDermott, a social studies teacher and sponsor of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) at Northwest High School. Emily encourages students to take what they learn in the classroom and use it to create a positive change in their community. Some examples of projects that students have initiated include starting a rainbow library, implementing gender neutral bathrooms, participation in Diversity Night, holding a Pronoun Day, and working with the MCPS Bridge to Wellness Program.


Rockville

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a collision involving an overturned vehicle in Rockville on Monday, May 22 around 12:30pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer , one adult was transported to the hospital with Priority 2 injuries after being pinned in their vehicle.

Veirs Mill Rd. is closed at Edmonston Dr. as the result of the collision. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and to significant delays. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.


Restaurants

Signage is up for Tequila Modern Mexican at 11 N Washington Street in Rockville Town Center, the former location of Trapezaria. Tequila Modern Restaurant recently opened its first location at 1645 Reservoir St #185 in Harrisonburg, VA. Construction on the interior of the Rockville location appears to have just begun and no opening timeframe has been announced.

Trapezaria, which opened in the summer of 2013, permanently closed on March 11. The restaurant posted the following message on its social media accounts: “We would like to inform all of our loyal customers over the last 10 years that Trapezaria Greek Kuzina will no longer be in Rockville and will will not be renewing our lease. Our time has come to an end and we would like to invite you for our last Saturday brunch and Dinner today March 11th, 2023. We will have a special food & drink menu to show our appreciation to you!!! Thank you and looking forward to seeing you all.”


Rockville

The city will operate a free shuttle service to RedGate Park on both days of the festival, running every 20 minutes, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., from Monroe Street, between East Montgomery Avenue and Middle Lane. There will be no shortage of musical acts, including performances by The Nighthawks, Capital Effect, The JoGo Project, Cole Larravide, and Ocho De Bastos.
