Loriele’s Oath of Office Ceremony & the passing of the gavel from outgoing Junior Mayor took place on Monday, June 6.
Junior Mayor, Loriele Nix a 4th Grader at Summit Hall Elementary School was sworn-in Monday night, June 6th: Loriele will attend events and ceremonies with the City’s elected officials throughout the year.
On June 7, the Montgomery County Board of Education adopted a $2.92 billion Operating Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. This is an increase of $137.9 million (5 percent) from the current FY 2022 budget. The budget will allow MCPS to provide a continuation of key services, provide critical support to students for mental health and well-being and cover pandemic increases on operating costs.
“This budget will help the school system to continue moving forward, improving teaching and learning for all students, and advancing equity and excellence in MCPS,” said Board President Brenda Wolff. “We must continue to do all we can to eliminate disparities in academic achievement and ensure our students have the resources needed for a healthy and safe school environment. We want to thank County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Gabe Albornoz and the entire County Council for its commitment to the students of Montgomery County Public Schools.”

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing woman from Chevy Chase. Gail Jacobs, age 60, was last seen on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at approximately 10:40 p.m., leaving the 7400 block of Wyndale Lane.
Jacobs is 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds. She has long brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a red long-sleeve shirt, black pants, brown sandals and eye glasses. Jacobs may be driving a black Mercedes Benz GLK with Maryland license plate, 5DG3292.
Historic Indigenous Recognition Event to Take Place in Montgomery County, Maryland

Cropdusters Baseball begins its inaugural season with games on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11, with each first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at “The Barnyard” a.k.a First Responder Field by ServPro at OBGC Park (4501 Olney Laytonsville Road Olney,MD). The park opens one hour before game time for fans to arrive and claim their seating, meals, and beverages! Tickets can be purchased on the team website, and take note: this is a cash free facility.
MCPS hosted a Future Educators celebration for 12 graduating seniors on June 8. The Office of Human Resources and Development has been working on a “Grow Your Own” strategy to attract, recruit and excite MCPS students with the possibility of a teaching career with the district.
The event recognized the students for their outstanding academic performance and commitment to return to MCPS once they have finished college.
The bill approved by the Council calls for the County Executive to make nominations for the PAB and for the nominees to be confirmed by the County Council. Establishment of the PAB is in accordance with House Bill 670 approved by the Maryland General Assembly in 2021. The State law created a new uniform procedure for police accountability and discipline, including the establishment of a PAB in each County.

Greenbelt, Maryland – A criminal complaint was filed today charging Nicholas John Roske, age 26, of Simi Valley, California, for federal charges of attempted murder of a Supreme Court Justice. Roske is expected to have an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt today at 3:00 p.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy J. Sullivan.
