Per MCPS: “This January has been a challenging month for our community, with freezing temperatures, snow and icy conditions affecting our daily routines. Students, staff and families have navigated these tough weeks with resilience, being cautious while traveling and layering up against the cold. We can now look forward to a welcome warm-up in the coming days; however, we must make a necessary adjustment to the school calendar due to the weather-related closures earlier this month.

Gaithersburg

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) shared that its Special Victims Investigations Division executed a residential search warrant in the 17500 block of Amity Drive in Gaithersburg this morning. Per police, “The investigation has no connection with immigration status or the enforcement of immigration laws.”

DC Sports

The AFC and NFC Championship games will be played this Sunday and for the first time in over 30 years our home team, the Washington Commanders, will be competing in the NFC Championship for the chance to make it to the Super Bowl. Beyond MoCo

19-year-old Zhenyong Weng of New York, who pleaded guilty on Tuesday, was sentenced today to 18 months in prison for his role in an attempted Gold Bar Scam targeting an elderly victim who had lost over $900,000, with prosecutors emphasizing the inadequacy of current sentencing guidelines for such crimes.
