Per MCDOT: On Wednesday, Sept. 20, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold an in-person public meeting at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, Wisconsin Room, located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane in Bethesda to discuss and gather community feedback on possible long-term improvements to the Norfolk Ave. Streetery area.

This meeting will allow MCDOT to share the recommended alternative for the long-term future of Norfolk Avenue. The current design is still very preliminary and is at the concept stage. The ultimate goal of the effort is to find ways to support a permanent streetery along Norfolk Avenue and improve bicyclist and pedestrian safety in the corridor.

The incident took place following a Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walter Johnson football game, where the three accused teens allegedly assaulted and robbed other teenage victims. A male victim, along with a parent, reported the assault to police the night of the incident. A video of the assault surfaced on social media, drawing the attention of Montgomery County Police. As a result, detectives were able to identify the suspects with the assistance of Montgomery County Public School leaders. This case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and more arrests are expected to be made.

Andy’s Pizza has opened its first Montgomery County location at 4600 East West Highway– the former site of sandwich shop Booeymonger in Bethesda. Our very own Mr. MoCo stopped by during opening week to buy a few slices and support one of MoCo’s newest businesses. The video and more information can be seen below.

The pizza dough at Andy’s undergoes a 72-hour cold ferment and is cooked in a New York deck oven. The process creates a crispier crust with a chewy interior, and a hint of a sour flavor. Andy’s Pizza will also offers salads, wings, fries, and more. In 2021 Andy’s got 1st place in the International Pizza Challenge™, which has evolved and grown in stature and prize money to become one of the most prestigious pizza-making competition in North America.

The family of Susan Loftus would like to invite you to attend a Celebration of Life in her honor. Details on the celebration available below. “Susan passed away August 14, 2023, unexpectedly in her sleep due to a cardiac event. “While we are grieving her passing, we know the last thing she would want is for people to dress in black and be sullen. She was a fun-loving woman and the life of every party. Please come dressed in bright colors to honor her wishes.”

In her 32 years as an educator (physical education), she connected with so many people in our community and beyond. Her life’s work was improving the lives of students, teachers, union members, neighbors, friends, and family. We invite you to come prepared to share your memories of Susan during the celebration.

Butter Chicken House is coming to Montgomery Mall, moving into the space that was recently home to Ya Mon! Island Grill. The Caribbean restaurant, which was located next door to Chick-Fil-A, closed earlier this year. Ya Mon! served jerk chicken, meat, fish, beef patties, along with salads and sides.

Butter Chicken House plans to open on Friday, September 15th, according to Robert Dyer. Per his report, “The internationally-popular dish [butter chicken] from the city of Amritsar will be available as a bowl with rice, as a wrap, or in a combo meal.” Additional information on food court updates at Montgomery Mall, from earlier this summer, can be found here. Our latest on what’s new at Westfield Montgomery Mall can be seen here.

Following last night’s varsity football game at Bethesda-Chevy Chase (B-CC) High School between B-CC and Walter Johnson, a fight between students broke out at the nearby Bethesda Metro Station which resulted in serious student injuries. The principals of those schools released the following community message on Saturday afternoon:

Last night, Friday, September 1, B-CC hosted Walter Johnson for our first football game of the fall season. The game went well and was an exciting match. Our fans and attendees were great and everyone seemed to have a fun evening. The safety plans jointly made by both schools worked well on campus and all of the fans left school grounds safely.
