MoCo resident Chef Mike Friedman (Olney), Colin McDonough, Gareth Croke, and Mike O’Malley, the team behind DC restaurants All-Purpose Pizzeria, The Red Hen, and Boundary Stone Public House will be opening a new concept in Downtown Bethesda this November (date according to Washingtonian Magazine). Aventino and AP Pizza Shop will be located at 4747 Bethesda Ave.

Aventino will feature vibrant and traditional Roman cuisine with a menu of antipasti, pasta and more by chef Mike Friedman, and classic cocktails like a selection of spritzes and negronis, in a warm and inviting setting that can hold over 100 guests. Per Washingtonian,the menu will include “dishes like Jewish-­style fried artichokes, polenta-crusted fluke, and housemade gelato.”


Butter Chicken House in the Montgomery Mall food terrace is currently holding its soft opening. The restaurant is located in the space that was recently home to Ya Mon! Island Grill, next door to Chick-Fil-A. Ya Mon Island Grill closed over the summer. According to its website, “Butter chicken, also known as “Murgh Makhani,” is a mouthwatering and beloved dish in Indian cuisine. It’s a rich and flavorful dish that combines tender pieces of chicken with a creamy and aromatic tomato-based sauce. The flavors are a perfect balance of savory, creamy, tangy, and mildly spicy, making it an absolute delight for the taste buds.”

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Investigations Division are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects who stole packages and mail from an apartment complex in Bethesda.

On August 19, 2023, 2nd District officers responded to the 5400 block of Westbard Ave. for the report of a theft that occurred earlier. The investigation by detectives has determined that two suspects entered the secured building, after a resident opened the lobby door to pick up a food delivery. Once in the building, the suspects stole multiple packages belonging to residents. Detectives obtained surveillance video of the suspects.


Per Imagination Stage: Imagination Stage, the metro DC region’s largest professional theatre for young audiences and leader in positive youth development through the arts, is hosting the Arts for All! Children’s Fest on October 21 from 10:00-1:00 at Imagination Stage in Bethesda. The festival is a FREE, fun, hands-on celebration of performing and visual arts especially for children ages 1-8. Four DMV arts organizations are partnering and leading lively workshops.

 


A new roster of businesses are coming soon to Cabin John Village, according to a recent press release. Businesses including an integrative physiotherapy studio, a STEM preschool and new clothing and accessories boutiques, are being added to Cabin John Village to make the iconic Potomac shopping center a full-service destination. Completing the line-up are award-winning, chef-driven restaurants. Openings to Look Forward To*:

Flip Circus is coming to Montgomery Mall for 10 days from October 20-30th. The show will be located under a large white and red tent that will be set up in the parking lot area near the Old Navy entrance to the mall.  The circus features clowns, jugglers, acrobats, aerialists and “motorcycles inside the Globe of Steal.” Shows will take place at 7:30pm Monday-Friday and 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are currently available through the FlipCircus website.


Montgomery County Police issued the following traffic advisory at 4:42am on Wednesday morning. As of 7am, an update has not been provided:

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Standing water from last nights storm has Cabin John Parkway closed from the 6500 block to the I-495 ramp. Drivers are advised to take an alternate route. Expect significant delays.


Chef Mitsuhisa Nishio, or “Michu” to his family members and friends and Chef Ninja to many of his followers across social media, is opening Zuma By Chef Ninja in the space that was previously home to Brickside at 4866 Cordell Ave in Bethesda. An October 6th opening has been announced by the restaurant.

Michu/“Chef Ninja” is the son of first generation of Japanese immigrants who moved to the Dominican Republic. He has been interested in cooking since a young age– learning about Japanese cuisine from his parents by helping his mother in the kitchen as a child. His cooking is “based on the fusion of Caribbean cuisine and traditional Japanese food.” Zuma By Chef Ninja is described as Japanese/Latin fusion.

The Jolly Shows Carnival will be at Westfield Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Boulevard, Bethesda) from Wednesday, September 20th until Sunday, September 24th. There will be over 30 attractions, including carnival rides, games, and food wagons. According to their website, “We are a new generation of carnival operators who strive to be more progressive and professional. We realize that we must produce a premium product for our customer’s hard earned money. We won’t forget our proud traditions, but we are committed to overcoming the stigmas which have hindered our industry for far too long.”


Beginning the week of September 26th, Clark Construction will perform night work activities on Old Georgetown Road between Commerce Lane and Woodmont Avenue. Clark will be performing a double lane closure each night from the hours of 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

The road will be opened for full traffic operations at 5:00 AM each morning. This lane modification will be in effect until the end of October 2023, and is in addition to the single lane closure on the right side of Old Georgetown Road that will remain in effect through February of 2024.
