Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana will be opening its long awaited Montgomery Mall location in mid to late March, according to a social media post by WTOP’s Neal Augenstein.
Frank Pepe’s is located in the old Bobby’s Burger Palace location on the lower level across from Cheesecake Factory.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units responded to a collision that occurred on Old Georgetown Road and Lincoln Drive at approximately 1:30am on Monday Morning.
We are told minor injuries were sustained in the crash.
Yesterday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich released a statement announcing that all products produced in Russia have been removed from the County’s Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) stores. Last night popular Bethesda bar and restaurant Caddies released a statement announcing that it will no longer purchase or serve Russian Vodka while also changing the name of three of its cocktails in support of Ukraine.
The names of three cocktails, Moscow Mule, White Russian, and Black Russian, have been changed to Kyiv Mule, White Ukrainian, and Black Ukrainian. Caddies also announced that it will be donating a portion of revenue from the sale of those cocktails to the Ukrainian Children’s Emergency Fund.
On Friday, Montgomery County officials dedicated the “MD 355 Crossing Project” in Bethesda. The new underpass provides safe crossing between the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Medical Center Metrorail station.
The underpass is named after the late Phil Alperson, a former MCDOT employee who worked for years to coordinate the project.
Neeta Mayur Promoted to Vice President, Revenue Management and Seon Heo Promoted to Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Thomas Penny, III, President of Donohoe Hospitality Services (DHS), a division of Bethesda-based Donohoe, announced the appointments of two vice presidents. Neeta Mayur has been promoted to vice president, revenue management, and Seon Heo has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing.
Back in August of 2020 we let you know that HalfSmoke would be opening a Rockville location in Rockville Town Square. Though it hasn’t opened yet, it’s still in the plans for the DC-based restaurant.
Now we know of a new location, HalfSmoke Bethesda, which will be opening in the Montgomery Mall food court, as first reported by The MoCo Source on Instagram. It will be located in the former home of Coldstone Creamery and more recently Gelato Galaxy.
Three fires that have left two separate families displaced occurred overnight, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer. The fires occurred in Takoma Park, Germantown, and a Chevy Chase. There were no injuries reported in any of the fires.
The first was a 2-alarm fire at 7401 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park at the Hampshire Tower apartments. One family consisting of two children and two adults was displaced, and there was approximately $25k in damages. No word on the cause of the fire.
Baskin Robbins will be closing its Cabin John Village location this week, per an employee of the store and confirmation via phone call. The store plans to locate to nearby Potomac Woods Plaza, located adjacent to Park Potomac. Potomac Woods Plaza is currently the home to Quincy’s Potomac, Brooklyn Deli, Walgreens, and more.

Back in September we let you know the popular DC restaurant The Salt Line would be making its way over to Bethesda Row, taking over the location at 4900 Hampden Lane that was going to be home to The Riggsby.
The Riggsby is no longer coming and local restaurant owner Wesley Yao has let us know that construction has began at the upcoming Bethesda location of The Salt Line and could be open later this year. The space was formerly home to Kapnos, a Greek restaurant that announced it was closing its doors in December of 2018.
Isaac Applebaum has made it to the Jeopardy! College finals. He is a junior at Stanford University, majoring in Computational Biology. Applebaum is from Bethesda and graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 2019, where he also played on the baseball team and ran cross country. Applebaum is also a musician, a jazz pianist, which he says is a big part of his identity.
In the first quarterfinals matchup of the two-week Jeopardy College Championship, Applebaum pulled off a comeback win to defeat Gus Guszkowski of Dartmouth and Catherine Zhang of Cornell. He won by correctly identifying Charles Torrey as the abolitionist thought to have given the Underground Railroad its name during final Jeopardy.
