Maryland State Police Aviation Command took flight Tuesday evening and rescued a young woman after her car plunged off a cliff in West Virginia.

Starting October 7th, Titanic: The Exhibition will be in the DMV as it comes to 151 St George Blvd, Oxon Hill, MD 20745 at National Harbor. The visit, which takes approximately 80-90 minutes, will include an audio guide who will take you on a narrative experience describing the events on that fateful day in 1912. Visitors will be able to unravel the true story of the ship through personal belongings, photographs and other relics and walk through a recreation of the ship’s interior—from a first-class suite to a humble third-class cabin.
“The Exhibition is far more than a display of historic items: it is a unique narrative experience, a tale of the people aboard history’s most legendary ship on its maiden and final journey. Travel back to 1912 through photographs, handwritten letters, wayward keepsakes, and other personal belongings telling countless stories about the fates and heroic deeds on board.”
Michael Jordan is an avid open sea fisher. During the fishing season, MJ spends time traveling the coast in his 8 million dollar fishing boat to participate in fishing competitions. MJ and his boat Catch 23’ have been registered for The awhile Martin Open for the last few years. Jordan is currently back in town enjoying Ocean City, MD for the tournament (video below).
The White Marlin Open is a 50-year-old deep-sea fishing tournament held annually in Ocean City, Maryland. Long known as the “World’s Largest Billfishing Tournament,” the Open has awarded over $105 million for catches of the gamefish that migrate up the Gulf Stream each summer. The first tournament was held in 1974 and drew 57 boats, 150 anglers, and paid $20,000 in prize money. The 2022 event drew 408 boats, over 3,500 contestants, and awarded over $8.6 million dollars in prize money, including the top individual prize of $4.53 million dollars which established a new world record award for the catch of a fish. Two Montgomery County fisherman claimed a total of $5.7 million in prize money last year.
The state had 26 third-tier winners of at least $10,000 during this jackpot run that started on April 21. There have been over 1 million winning tickets sold in Maryland during that time. More than $56.5 million in sales occurred during the roll, and based on approximately 25% of sales being returned to the state, the profit to the Maryland General Fund from those sales was about $14.5 million. The last Maryland jackpot win came in March 2014, when Maryland and Florida players split a $414 million jackpot. That winning ticket was sold at Lady’s Liquors in La Plata. A Montgomery County woman was killed in a crash that occurred on Interstate 70 near Braddock Heights Saturday morning, August 5, 2023. According to police, Jeanne Ngassa, 74, of Silver Spring, was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on I-70 when a Mercedes traveling eastbound crossed the median and collided head-on with Ngassa’s car.
The Mercedes also struck a westbound Dodge Ram pickup truck head-on, causing the truck to catch fire. Ngassa was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was airlifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, and the Dodge Ram pickup driver was taken to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing, per WFMD.

A $50,000 winning Powerball ticket was sold at an Anne Arundel County Giant. According to the Maryland Lottery, “Check your Powerball tickets from Monday’s drawing, Maryland! Even though no one hit the estimated $145 million jackpot, there was one $50,000-winning ticket sold in our state. The Maryland Lottery is looking for the lucky player who bought the third-tier winning ticket at Giant #0358 located at 573 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.
The winning numbers in the Aug. 7 drawing were 6, 13, 20, 35 and 54; the Powerball was 22 and the Power Play multiplier was X2. In addition to the third-tier winner, Marylanders won 13,401 prizes ranging from $4 to $200. Lottery officials encourage winners to sign the back of their tickets immediately and put them in a safe location. The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), in cooperation with the Prince George’s County and Anne Arundel county Health Department, will expand mosquito control services in areas due to a public health concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases after additional mosquito pools tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
So far, no human cases have been reported. “For most people that get West Nile, they have zero symptoms. No symptoms at all,” said Johns Hopkins University senior scholar and physician Dr. Amesh Adalja (per FOX 5). Per the CDC, about 1 in 5 people who are infected develop a fever with other symptoms such as headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash. About 1 in 150 people who are infected develop a severe illness affecting the central nervous system such as encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) or meningitis (inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord).
On Thursday, August 10th, Wawa will return to College Park following a 16 year absence. The original College Park Wawa location was adored by many students throughout the years until it its closure in September 2007. Now, Wawa returns with its location at 10050 Baltimore Ave, next to the College Park Ikea store. The celebration will allow customers to grab a pic with Wally Goose and the first 100 customers at 8am will get a free t-shirt.
Last November, Wawa opened a location nearby at 9100 Riggs Rd in Adelphi, MD. That location, which features a 5,619 square foot food and beverage store and a gas station, is located on the Southwest corner of Adelphi Rd and Riggs Rd, just across Adelphi Rd from the existing 7-Eleven and Popeyes.
The convention was first held in 2008 at Tysons Corner, Virginia by Todd Webb, and in subsequent years, the flagship Virginia convention has been held in Chantilly, typically during the first weekend of August. BrickFair is a four-day event, operating generally Thursday through Sunday. The convention displays Lego models, displays and trains, most often covering more than 100,000 square feet of convention space. BrickFair conventions are also held in New England and the Southeastern United States, with the advent of BrickFair Alabama in 2012 and BrickFair New England in 2013. BrickFair operates in every season and in four East Coast states. BrickFair is believed to be the largest Lego convention in the United States and one of the largest in the world. The Virginia convention has had up to 22,500 attendees in its public hours.
The first BrickFair convention, in 2008, was held as a four-day convention at the Sheraton Premiere Hotel near Tysons Corner in Vienna, Virginia. The location was partially chosen because it was the 2006 site of BrickFest, a now-defunct Lego convention. In 2010, BrickFair was moved to the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA to make room for further expansion of the event. Metro Transit Police has announced the arrest of Adrian Barnes, 29, by MTPD July 29 at Fort Totten Station. Barnes was charged with ‘Attempted Second Degree Rape’ that occurred at the Shady Grove metro station last week. According to police, he will also be charged with ‘Assault’ and ‘Fugitive from Justice.’
Prior to his arrest, Metro Transit Police provided the following information: “Victim reported the suspect, identified as Adrian Barnes, approached her from behind as she was getting in her car. The suspect forced her to the ground, then attempted to rape her. The victim fought off the suspect and ran from the garage to get help.”
