Tony Russo, owner and founder of Ocean City boardwalk favorite Tony’s Pizza (3 Atlantic Ave, Ocean City, MD) has passed away. According to a message on the restaurant’s Facebook page, “It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of our beloved father, Tony Russo. He died peacefully at home Thursday morning surrounded by his children, nephew, grandchildren and friends. The viewing will be held Monday, June 19th from 4-7 at Holy Savior Church. The funeral mass will be Tuesday June 20th, at 11 a.m. at Holy Savior Church. Mom and Dad had a special place in their hearts for each customer, friend , and family member that visited them on the boardwalk.”


While directing traffic on scene of collision on Monday afternoon, a Montgomery County firefighter who was wearing protective safety equipment in a high visibility traffic vest was struck and dragged before the driver/car came to a stop, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Chief (MCFRS) Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

The injured firefighter was transported to the hospital, where he treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The incident occurred on the 10000 block of Lewisdale Rd, near Urbana Rd, in Ijamsville. ‘It could have been worse, much worse,’ the injured firefighter said in a Firehouse News article.


Maryland resident Pat Sajak, host of Wheel of Fortune since 1981, has announced that the upcoming 41st season of the show will be his last. Sajak and his wife Lesly Brown-Sajak are longtime residents of Severna Park, MD.

Sajak has received 19 nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host, winning three times. As a longtime Maryland resident, he has become an avid fan of the Washington Capitals and has been a season-ticket holder, making an on-ice appearances, for years– including prior to Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2018.


Per the Maryland Lottery: “A Door Dash driver will be making a dash to her local bank. The Anne Arundel County resident bought a $20 Million Dollar Mega Multiplierscratch-off ticket and it turned out to be a $1 million top-prize winner.

The 47-year-old visited 7-Eleven #25410 located at 500 Donaldson Ave in Severn. She went inside the store, noticed the ticket and immediately grabbed it. It wasn’t long before she started scratching the ticket. In fact, she sat in her car outside the store and went to work on it. Upon revealing the big win, and while still in shock, she called her sister to share the news.


Mt. Airy will hold its 10th annual Independence Day celebration and fireworks display on Monday, July 3rd at 1008 Twin Arch Rd. The event will feature a band playing from 5:00pm – 9:00pm and food vendors on site with “lots of food options.” Anyone attending is able to bring their own coolers with food and drink as well. The Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) has warned of potential travel impacts for those traveling towards Philadelphia or I-95N, following a partial highway collapse of a section of I-95 near Philadelphia. “While this took place outside of Maryland, it could impact your travel if you are headed toward the Philadelphia area or planning to use I95. Stay safe.”

Per the City of Philadelphia: This morning, June 11, 2023, a vehicle fire under I-95 near the Cottman Avenue exit in Northeast Philadelphia caused a portion of the highway to collapse. Preliminary reports indicate a tanker truck was involved in the fire. Pennsylvania State Police closed I-95 in both directions around the area.


20-person company founded in 1954, signs lease with St. John Properties, Inc. for 15,000 square feet of space at 4724 Arcadia Drive in Arcadia Business Park

Steel Products, Inc., a woman-owned specialty contracting firm founded in 1954, has signed a lease with St. John Properties, Inc. for 15,000 square feet of flex/R&D space at Arcadia Business Park. Earlier this year, the company relocated its corporate offices from Rockville to Frederick, Maryland. Approximately 20 employees moved to 4724 Arcadia Drive, a single-story building containing 48,120 square feet of flex/R&D space.

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Charles Shepard, a missing 74-year-old from Adamstown.

Shepard was last seen on Thursday, June 8, at approximately 3 p.m., near Holy Cross hospital in Silver Spring.  Shepard is approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He is bald and has gray facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, Black shirt, blue jeans and red and gray athletic shoes.  Police and family are concerned for his welfare.


The Maryland beer scene recently received big news when Flying Dog announced it was sold and will be moving production Frederick to New York. DuClaw Brewing Company has made a joint announcement with River Horse Brewing Company that it has been acquired by the New Jersey brewer. The full joint statement can be seen below:

Millard House II, formerly Superintendent of the Houston Independent School District, will take the helm of Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) on July 1. Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced his appointment Wednesday during a news conference at the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building.

House led Houston ISD for two years, ending his tenure in the nation’s eighth-largest district earlier this month. He previously served as director of schools for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) in Tennessee, chief operating officer of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina and deputy superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma. House founded and led a college preparatory middle school in one of Tulsa’s most economically underserved neighborhoods and served as executive consultant and executive director of New Leaders for New Schools.
