• At about 4 pm, officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and La Plata Police Department responded to a single family home in the 3000 block of Wildflower Drive in La Plata for the report of a shooting.

• When officers entered the house, they located five people who were deceased. All of the victims appear to be adults. Investigators are working to establish the identities and the relationships between everyone involved.


The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office received a call for “multiple stabbings at Green Valley Elementary School” in Monrovia on Thursday afternoon from a caller who was informed by a school teacher to call police. Law enforcement officials responded immediately and quickly determined that no stabbings occurred.

Further investigation found that the teacher took 27 students through the woods to a local cafe, Buzz Café, and asked an employee to call 911 to report the stabbings. The school was initially placed on lockdown. The school then went into a “hold status” and then a “secure status” with dismissal taking place normally.


He visited Giant #310 in Bowie and bought 10 quick-pick tickets for the Oct. 29 drawing, along with Halloween treats. A caregiver for his father, the loyal Powerball player didn’t watch the drawing or even check his tickets until the next morning after learning that no one had hit the jackpot. Looking up the winning numbers, the Prince George’s County resident checked ticket after ticket for a win. “It was on the last of the 10 tickets,” said the former information technology worker. “I looked it up and this thing is saying $1 million!” He recalls thinking, “It’s wrong!” and asked his brother to take a look at the ticket.

After confirming the $1 million win, the Powerball fan said he felt a sense of relief. “I’m just thankful,” he said. The winner plans to use his prize to take care of his father and keep chasing the Powerball jackpot, which has now rolled to an estimated annuity of $1.5 billion for the Saturday, Nov. 5, drawing. The estimated cash value is $745.9 million. His lucky retailer can celebrate, too. For selling a $1 million winning Powerball ticket, the store located at 15520 Annapolis Road in Bowie receives a $2,500 bonus from the Lottery. This is the eighth second-tier Powerball prize of $2 million or $1 million won in 2022.


Orange wooden and plastic seating from RFK Stadium’s lower bow, as well as stadium turnstiles, are currently being sold online by Events DC, which has just announced the Farewell RFK Stadium project.  Prices range from $349-$599. RFK Stadium opened in 1961 and was the home to the Washington Redskins (1961-1996), the Washington Senators (1962–1971), D.C. United (1996–2017), and the Washington Nationals (2005-2007). Demolition of RFK stadium is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.  Full details below per Events DC:

Washington, DC (November 3, 2022) – Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, today announced the kickoff of Farewell RFK Stadium, a project to celebrate and honor the legacy of DC’s most iconic sports and concert venue, while also sharing timely updates regarding ongoing demolition activities.


Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announced on Wednesday afternoon that an arrest has been made in reference to an “Assault With Intent to Rob while Armed (Gun) offense” that occurred on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in the 1000 block of H Street, Northeast. The victim of crime was Commanders running back Brian Robinson, who was shot twice in the leg. Robinson recovered and returned to the field for the Commanders just six weeks later, playing in the team’s October 9th game.

At approximately 5:28 pm, the suspects approached the victim at the listed location. The suspects brandished handguns and attempted to rob the victim. During the robbery attempt, one of the suspects fired a handgun, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle without obtaining any property. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order, a 17-year-old juvenile male ( who was 16 at the time of the offense), of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob while Armed (Gun).


Live! Casinos and Hotels announced its has purchased 4,000 tickets for tonight’s Powerball drawing, 2,407 of which were purchased by Maryland Live! Casino, located at 7002 Arundel Mills Cir Ste 7777 in Hanover, MD.  If the company happens to have the winning numbers, it plans to split the winning ticket among all of its 4,000+ active employees at its three locations (Arundel Mills, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia). Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is the second highest in history and now stands at an estimated $1.2 billion with a cash option of $596.7 million.

The new Wawa at 9100 Riggs Rd in Adelphi, MD is scheduled to open on November 10. The location, which features a 5,619 square foot food and beverage store and a gas station,  will be located on the Southwest corner of Adelphi Rd and Riggs Rd, just across Adelphi Rd from the existing 7-Eleven and Popeyes. Wawa also opened a location at 2200 Pulaski Highway in Edgewood, MD last month.

As for MoCo’s first Wawa, construction on the Gaithersburg location is ongoing (photos below). The convenience store/gas station will be taking over the site of the old Becraft Antiques location on 355, across from Gaithersburg High School at 405 S Frederick Ave.  We first let you know the news of Wawa’s first planned MoCo location in May of 2019.  Since then, the first MoCo Royal Farms was announced, constructed, and opened in Gaithersburg and the first MoCo Sheetz location was announced.


With the U.S. Men’s National Team having qualified for the FIFA World Cup this year, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2022’s Best Cities for Soccer Fans. Back in September, the D.C. Council approved an emergency measure that will “allow bars, restaurants, and breweries/distilleries who register for the privilege to remain open 24 hours a day during the upcoming November/December soccer World Cup, with alcoholic beverage service allowed from 6am to 4am.” Per the measure, alcohol cannot be served between 4am and 6am. The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup competition, the quadrennial international men’s football championship contested by the senior national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022.


Medium Rare at 3500 Connecticut Ave in NW, Washington, DC will be holding a free turkey frying event on Thursday, November 24 from 10am-4pm in an effort to raise money for  Feed the Fridge. The event is first come, first serve, and the restaurant is asking that people only bring turkeys to be fried that weigh less than 10lbs.  Feed the Fridge, which was started by Medium Rare’s Mark Bucher,  places refrigerators in local communities and pays area restaurants to stock them daily with fresh meals.  Medium Rare has a MoCo location at 4904 Fairmont Ave in Bethesda.


Michelin-starred Chef Elias Taddesse, executive chef and owner of DC’s acclaimed Mélange restaurant, will open his Ethiopian-style fried chicken restaurant on November 17th at 11 a.m. The first 50 in-person guests will get a free 2-piece Fried Doro Chicken Plate with Black Cumin Qibe Cornbread and Spiced Mac & Cheese.

Doro Soul Food infuses traditional American soul food with Ethiopian flavors. The restaurant is located in a virtual food hall at 1819 7th Street, NW, blocks from Howard University. Chef Taddesse says he plans to offer a catering menu in the near future. Doro Soul Food will be open for pickup and delivery during the following hours:
