The XFL today revealed the names and logos for the eight teams that will be competing in the 2023 season, which kicks off on February 18, 2023. The Washington DC team, which will play its home games at Audi Field, will continue to be known as the D.C. Defenders. The Defenders went 3-2 during the XFL’s 2020 season, which ended prematurely in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The XFL was then purchased by Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson in August 2020 after the league went bankrupt.  The Defenders will be coached this season by Reggie Barlow and the XFL draft takes place in November.  Additional information courtesy of the XFL:

Per MPD: Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit announce an arrest has been made in a First Degree Sexual Abuse offense that occurred on Thursday, October 27, 2022, in the 2100 block of P Street, Northwest.

At approximately 3:20 am, the suspect approached the victim at the listed location. The suspect assaulted the victim and engaged in a forced sex act with the victim. The suspect was arrested by responding officers.


Gordon Ramsay recently opened his first DC restaurant, Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, at The Wharf. His Hell’s Kitchen concept, which was announced last February, is up next with an updated Winter/Early 2023 timeframe.

What started in 1998 with Chef Ramsay’s first-owned restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, the Gordon Ramsay brand has evolved into restaurants in three continents, six countries, and dozens of cities.  The Michelin-starred Chef is now bringing his Hell’s Kitchen concept to The Wharf in nearby Washington, DC, according to a recent report by. The two-story Hell’s Kitchen will be located at 652 Wharf St. SW.


The Frederick County Council voted for the approval of the Sugarloaf Treasured Landscape Management Plan on Tuesday, passing the plan to preserve Sugarloaf Mountain and surrounding land, but pushed back a decision on development restrictions in the area to the council that will take office in December, following the November elections (according to a report by Jack Hogan of the Frederick News Post).

The Washington Post reports that the Frederick County Council rejected a last minute compromise, 4-3, that could lead to further conflict between county officials and the property owner. Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner expressed disapproval of the compromise at the meeting, while County Councilmember Kai Hagan, who proposed the compromis, referred to it as “an effort to advance the strongest plan we can get”.


“Harry Potter- A Forbidden Experience”, a nighttime woodland trail experience filled with magical creatures and wizarding wonders from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, is coming later this month, October 29th, to Leesburg, VA (Morven Park, 41580 Sunday Morning Lane). The walking trail takes approximately 45-70 minutes, while the experience itself takes about 60-90 minutes for all ages, with tickets ranging from $25-$75 depending on age and session date/time.

Staff at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute are mourning the loss of Luke, an African lion who was humanely euthanized Oct. 19. He was 17 years old. The median life expectancy for African lions in human care is 17 years.


Rusty, the red panda who escaped from the National Zoo back in June of 2013 when he was less than a year old, has passed away unexpectedly according to a social media post by Pueblo Zoo. Rusty roamed around Adams Morgan when he escaped the soon at some point during the night of June 23rd. He was spotted throughout Adams Morgan until the Washington Humane Society located him in a tree at 2pm the next day and was able to put him in a crate and bring him back home to the zoo.

Rusty was born in 2012 at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo in Nebraska. He then moved to the National Zoo in DC where he lived for a while before moving once again to the Pueblo Zoo in Colorado. While at Pueblo Zoo he became a father of twins, Mogwai and Momo. Pueblo Zoo released the following statement regarding Rusty’s death earlier this week:


Gordon Ramsay’s Fish & Chips has soft opened at 665 Water Street at the base of the Williams & Connolly building The Wharf in DC.  Originally, Ramsay planned on opening his Fish & Chips restaurant at 501 Seventh Street, Northwest, DC, but decided he would open a bottomless pizza restaurant there instead (coming soon). Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips was the second of his restaurants announced for The Wharf as the Michelin-starred Chef is also bringing his Hell’s Kitchen concept to The Wharf.

The fast casual Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips menu offers six different types of combos, including a fish, shrimp, and chicken combo, as well as fishwich, chickenwich, and fish & shrimp combo, ranging in price from $14.99-$18.99. You have the option to “hook it up” by adding either extra fish, shrimp or chicken ($3.99-$5.99). Each combo comes with your choice of two sauces, and you can choose between Gordon’s tartar, curry & mango, sriracha aioli, southwest ranch, dijon mayo, and cocktail sauce. Chips are also available on their own, either plain or in three different versions of “dirty chips.” For dessert you can choose either a sticky toffee shake or a biscoff shake. Alcoholic beverages (beer and wine) are also available for those 21+.


Lil’ Cakes & Creamery will open its newest location at 3272 Bennett Creek Avenue, Unit A, this Saturday, October 22 in the Village Square at Urbana– joining the likes of Chipotle, Jersey Mike’s, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, and the brand new Big Greek Cafe. The grand opening will be held from 1-4pm and feature, face painting, free cupcakes & ice cream, raffles, and a moon bounce.
