The Harbor Bank of Maryland will celebrate a major milestone this month with the grand opening of its first Montgomery County branch in downtown Silver Spring. The event is set for Tuesday, September 23, from 11:30am to 1:30pm at 1010 Wayne Avenue. The bank opened for business earlier this summer.
Human BioSciences Inc., a longtime Gaithersburg-based biotech company specializing in wound-care products, is preparing to close its headquarters later this year. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the state of Maryland, the company will shutter its site at 940 Clopper Road and relocate operations to West Virginia effective November 5.
In April, Biz Journals reported that Unibal-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) had defaulted on a roughly $235 million securitized loan tied to Westfield Wheaton, the largest mall in suburban Maryland (DC Region) and the fourth largest in the Greater Washington area. Kisco Senior Living has announced the addition of The Preston of Rockville, a senior living community in Rockville, MD, to its portfolio as of June 23, 2025. Formerly The Seneca Rockville, the community was previously owned by Silverstone Senior Living and has now been acquired by Kisco for $44 million, according to Biz Journals.
Three Brothers Italian Restaurants, a staple of Maryland’s dining scene for over half a century, has been sold, according to The Restaurant Broker. The sale marks the end of an era for this beloved local chain, which once had a Rockville location at 1596-B Rockville Pike– the location that was also once home to Pizza CS.
Last year, Atlantic Union and Olney-based Sandy Spring Bank announced that they entered into a definitive merger agreement for Atlantic Union to acquire Sandy Spring in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $1.6 billion. The acquisition was completed on April 1st and the combination of the two organizations created the largest regional bank headquartered in the lower Mid-Atlantic. Now, Atlantic Union has shared that Sandy Spring Bank will officially make the change to Atlantic Union this October.
