The Takoma Park Police Department has an active arrest warrant for Yonas Alemseged Harris, 25, for Threat of Mass Violence after Harris sent what was described as “intimidating and threatening emails to Montgomery College officials/employees and the Montgomery County Police Department, indicating he intended to “shoot up” Montgomery College.”
A Silver Spring, MD woman was sentenced for defrauding the state’s Medicaid program of over $1 million by billing for speech language therapy services that were never provided to juvenile recipients.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the 11200 block of New Hampshire Ave in Silver Spring.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is investigating a residential burglary that took place last month in Boyds, MD.
Haotian Sun (34, Baltimore, MD) and Pengfei Xue (34, Germantown, MD) were sentenced today for participating in a “sophisticated scheme to defraud Apple Inc. out of millions of dollars’ worth of iPhones.” U.S. District Court Judge Timothy J. Kelly sentenced Sun to 57 months in prison, and sentenced Xue to 54 months in prison.
Marion Pearson, 67, of Durham, NC, pleaded guilty to second-degree rape and second-degree sexual assault for attacks on two victims in 1981 and faces up to 17 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for December 19. Pearson was linked to the crimes through DNA testing by the Montgomery County Police Cold Case Unit. (more…)
